WIN IT: GRAN FONDO ALLEGHANY RACE ENTRY
Register now for one of the southeastern U.S.'s most challenging and beautiful cycling events. The Gran Fondo Alleghany returns to Virginia's Alleghany Highlands on July 13.

Roanoke Outside and the Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce and Tourism want to help you participate in the ride by giving away one entry to the Gran and a one night stay at The Red Lantern Inn in Clifton Forge.

Entry is simple. Just fill out the form below and for extra entries head over to Facebook. We'll announce a winner on June 17.

COULD YOU SURVIVE AN ANIMAL ENCOUNTER?
survival guide
Ever wonder what you are supposed to do if you happen to come across a bear or raccoon during your outdoor adventures?

HellaWella has come up with a fun and somewhat tongue-in-cheek cartoon-style guidebook to help you decide what to do (or not to do) in a variety of situations.

We've posted a few of the guides; you can giggle at them on the blog >>>

STAND UP AND PADDLE
stand up paddleboard Most of us know we can paddle while sitting, but it is just as much fun to stand and paddle.

The Smith Mountain Stand Up Paddle Board Race is scheduled for June 29 at Smith Mountain Lake Community Park. The day includes a 3-mile race and demos for those who might not be ready to get on the lake. The race gets underway at 9:30 a.m. with demos following the awards ceremony at noon.

Stand up paddle boarding, also known as SUP, is an easy way to play on the water. You don't need a lot of equipment (just a board and paddle) and you can paddle almost anywhere, including on the many lakes and rivers in the Roanoke Region.
