VISIT ROANOKE FOR A FISHING ADVENTURE
By Joe Laing, El Monte RV
There isn't really anything more satisfying to a fisherman than heading out on a multi-day fishing adventure, ready to experience some peaceful solitude spending time on the water. The Roanoke area is particularly inviting, with plenty of nearby lakes, rivers and streams that provide some great catches. Taking a few days off and traveling around the Virginia countryside in an RV is a convenient and fulfilling way to fish these productive waters.
Lakes sit to all sides of the city, and Roanoke River runs right through the city. The opportunity for out-of-staters to enjoy a getaway devoted just to your favorite sport has never been better here. This is one area of the East Coast that has a diverse choice of fishing destinations. You will want to ensure you know the rules and regulations in Virginia, and you can find out how to get a fishing license at the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries website.
Start our north of the city at Carvins Cove to begin reeling them in. This reservoir provides a wide variety of fish, including walleye, crappie, and of course, large and smallmouth bass. A ten-minute drive from downtown Roanoke will get you there. Carvins Cove Nature Reserve also offers hiking and biking. The daily limits of fish run year-round, and include twenty-five per day for Rock bass, twenty per day for catfish, and five per day for large and smallmouth bass combined. Although there is no RV camping at the Reserve, you can reserve a spot at Dixie Caverns Campground just outside Roanoke in Salem. Then you will have a place to go after a long day of fishing fun.
