PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

HUB RALLY

May 16th Pam Dexter convened our annual HUB RALLY for hub point people.  Hub point people and hub representatives talked about current plans for hub activities.  Pam reviewed the VWS policies regarding hub spending and reimbursement.  Kate Jackson reviewed submission guidance for Snippets articles.  Charles Norris-Brown presented a list of things to consider if your hub is planning an exhibit of its members works.

In the course of discussions we stumbled over what may be a widely held misconception about the role of hub point people that I would like to address.  The role of the hub point person is to help as a facilitator of events and ideas that come from the members of a particular hub.  It is not to create or generate events for hub members.  If you belong to a hub and you would like to do an activity with your hub members talk to your point person and they will help.  Please do not assume that the hub point person is going to create events for you.  They might if it is in their nature, and that is wonderful, but not all point people work like that.  Hubs are our grass roots and that means each and everyone is a part.

Pat Lipinski is stepping down as hub point person for the Newport/St. Johnsbury Hub.  Thank you Pat, what a great job you have done in the Northeast Kingdom!  Mary Brenner will be taking over for Pat.

Pam Dexter will be stepping back from her role as Director of Hubs at the end of the year, Pam has served on the board for many years and has done a terrific job for the VWS, she will be a hard act to follow but if your thinking of serving on the VWS board and you're a good people person this is a role you may want to talk to Pam about, she thinks it is the best job on the board!

On an unrelated note; The VWS has just submitted a Project Grant application requesting $3,000 to the Vermont Arts Council for funds to continue with our "I CAN PAINT" program.  To date we have raised $875 on our own.  If your thinking about pitching in with a check pleases mail your check made out to the Vermont Watercolor Society to me so that I can properly thank you with a note, my address is:

Mark Nielsen

28 Center Road

Corinth VT 05039

Please include on the check memo line that it is for the "I Can Paint" fund and we will get it into the proper account.

Keep painting and share your talents and passion for watercolor with others.

Wet Paint Live (WPL)

A "Call for Artists" is now out for watercolor, oil, pastel, and acrylic artists to paint at a new southern Vermont "Plein Air" event scheduled for all-day, Saturday, October 10, 2015 in Springfield, Vermont called "Wet Paint Live" (WPL).  Both professional and emerging artists are encouraged to register soon. WPL will be held rain or shine on a designated route or "Plein Air Walk".  The walking and painting loop winds along the Black River into downtown and lingers at three spectacular waterfalls Falls that splash against 19th century factory buildings.  Two demonstration artists, Jamie Townsend and Matt Chinian will be painting and explaining their style and technique throughout the day.

The day begins and ends at the Great Hall Public Art Showcase, One Hundred River Street, Springfield, with an art show, judging, and awards.  The judge is Springfield resident, Robert Carsten, PSA-M, an internationally known pastel artist and experienced judge in all media categories.   Find more information and to register, visit  www.wplvermont.com.
