PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Mark Nielsen
|
Congratulations VWS!
We have a new name and image for our VWS Education Fund and it is a terrific combination I must say.
Congratulations to Lou Pfaelzer for her suggestion of "I Can Paint" for the name of the fund.
And congratulations to Lynn Pratt for her image "Rainbow Hands" shown below.
This combination of name and image was chosen from 19 names and 4 images that were submitted for consideration by a nearly unanimous vote from the full board. I want to say thank you to everyone who submitted a suggestion and who helped in deciding on the final selection. What a great team effort and what a terrific result, I could not be more inspired!
So far this year to date we have raised $650 for the fund with another $50 promised. Between your donations and a grant application we are hoping to raise $3,000 by the end of August in time for the start of school in September.
If your thinking about pitching in with a check please mail your check made out to the Vermont Watercolor Society to me so that I can properly thank you with a note, my address is:
Mark Nielsen
28 Center Road
Corinth VT 05039
Please include on the check memo line that it is for the "I Can Paint" fund and we will get it into the proper account.
The VWS membership sure is one talented group. And you can meet them at the upcoming 2015 Spring Event at Lake Morey Resort in Fairlee VT! Don't forget to register, the form is available on the home page of the VWS, under events calendar on the right hand side. Bring a painting with you to share with the rest of us. I hope to see you there.
Keep painting.
Mark

Annual VWS Spring Event at Lake Morey Inn
Vermont Watercolor Society
Mark your calendars! The annual VWS Spring Event will be held on Sunday, May 31, at the Lake Morey Inn. Come mingle with your friends and make new acquaintances; enter to win a fabulous door prize or raffle items; bring a recent painting for our Spring Event art show; and receive updates on the VWS education initiative, workshops, and shows.
We will be hearing from a respected intellectual property law attorney, who will give us a brief introduction to copyright issues that artists may face and will answer our questions.
We are also pleased that Peter Huntoon will be demonstrating his distinctive painting techniques featuring innovative color, strong composition, and enthusiastic brushwork. Also, weather permitting, we may have the chance to paint plein air together after the official festivities. Click here to sign up for the Spring Event now!
A message from Peter:
Dear Fellow VWS Members,
Since I'll be doing a painting demonstration at our Spring meeting I wanted to take a moment to say hello in advance.
I'll do my best to whip up a worthwhile presentation for you. Who knows, maybe you'll walk away with a new trick in your bag.
Karen Nevin, Executive Director of Valley Arts Foundation, describes A Day in Vermont better than I can...
"Vermont Artist Peter Huntoon has created A Day In Vermont, a "free and friendly email love-letter." Once a week, a beautiful painting by Peter arrives in your inbox. Along with personal comments, you can observe his process with photographs, sketches and then view the final product. Peter's work is stunning and evokes Vermont through and through. I love Peter's work and his new email project. I think you will too. Check it out!"
I look forward seeing you there. Until then, happy painting!
Warmest regards,
Peter

It is very exciting to have Holbein, USA as a VWS Partner. Being a Vermont based art supplier and full time supporter of arts and the artists who make them, it is a perfect fit for both of us. Please get to know Holbein and support them not only because they are one of our partners, but because they are a world leader in colors and mediums for artists. The Landgrove Inn is the premier, all-in-one lodging, dining and fun space in which to create, exhibit and learn. Check out the 2015 workshop schedule at Landgrove Inn, or call 802 824-6673.
