Register in advance for this free and very popular walk through staff member and trained herbalist Emma Long's garden. One of the best resources at the store and in our community is the sage herbal advice from our on-staff Registered Nurse and Herbalist, Donna Merrill. She is available for free consultations three days a week during specific times on a first-come, first-serve basis. When asked about her herbal recommendations for Spring time ailments, Donna contributed an article about Sinsitus and effective herbal treatments for nasal congestion and infection during this time of year. Over the last several years, Harvest Market has catered more and more to the gluten-free eaters among us. This May, we're acknowledging Celiac Awareness Month by offering some special events, lots of tasty samples, and enhanced education on the subject. We hope you'll find a reliable resource in our recently-updated Gluten Free Guide, a handy list all the items in the store that are free of gluten. We're offering four free Gluten-Free Store Tours, conducted by staff member and celiac specialist, Kate Brown. So, whether you've gone Paleo or you've eliminated gluten from your diet for health reasons, you can feel welcome shopping at Harvest Market--just look for the "no gluten" symbol on an item's shelf tag. |

- Herbs have been grown and used since ancient times. The Romans rubbed their wooden dining tables with fresh rosemary and mint for a lovely smell while dining.
- Herbs have the highest oil content and strongest flavor right before they flower.
- Fresh herbs and edible flowers are wonderful additions in cooking and as garnishes. Using herbs and flowering herbs in flower bouquets adds beauty, scent and texture.
- Fresh herbs add fresh flavor to food. When cooking with fresh herbs use 2-3 times as much fresh as you would use of the same dried herb. Don't be afraid to experiment!

May Day and America's Farmworkers
Around the world, the 1st of May is a day for workers to unite.
At Harvest Market, we salute the farmworkers in our community and all over the globe who are responsible for feeding us every day. We are proud to sell Certified Organic and Fair Trade products in our store, two ways we support a better working environment for farmworkers. We also have direct and personal relationships with many of our local farmers. However, much of our nation's food supply is grown by industrial farms or smaller farms who rely on outside labor.
Did you know?
85% of our fruits and vegetables are handpicked. There are an estimated 2-3 million men, women, and children who work in the fields in the United States.
