GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING - NEED YOUR ATTENDANCE
THURSDAY, MAY 26th at 7pm

PLEASE ATTEND! NEED YOUR ATTENDANCE - WE ARE VOTING ON:
Bylaws
Budget For 2016/17
Elections of Board Members for 2016/17
*Candidates (listed in orange found here)

In order to vote and approve the budget and bylaws, we need a majority vote of at least 10 PTA members at our May 26th General PTA Membership Meeting at 7pm. We would appreciate your attendance at May 26th General Meeting in order to have enough members present to approve these bylaws. The 2016-2017 bylaws and policies can be reviewed here, prior to the meeting.

Additionally, we will hold Elections at this meeting and vote in incoming board members. Thanks to all who have stepped up to serve on the Rockwell Board for the 2016/17 school year! There are still some remaining chair positions, committees and more areas (non-board) that need volunteers!  Perhaps YOU can help?

We look forward to seeing you at the General Membership Meeting and appreciate your support!

Rockwell PTA Co-Presidents
CAN YOU LEND A HAND NEXT YEAR?
Some of our PTA programs still need chairs or committee members in order to run next year! Any program can be co-chaired - grab a friend and chair together.

If no one steps up, these opportunities will not be available to our students next year. Some opportunities include:
  • Yearbook Committee (needs 3 more members, see detailed article below)
  • PTA Reflections Art Contest Coordinator (co-chairs welcome. Our students have an opportunity to submit their artwork and receive recognition at the local, state, and even national level....but only if we have a parent coordinator! We need someone ASAP as this program starts right away in the fall!
  • Movie Night Chair
  • Restaurant Night Chair
  • Ice Cream Social trainee/co-chair (current chairs returning for last year and can train the new co-chair to take over)
  • Dance Committee can use a few extra members
  • Some After School programs and more!
Please see list online HERE and email us if you have any questions!
FIELD DAY - WEDS JUNE 8TH - VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Rockwell Field Day will take place rain or shine on
Wednesday, June 8 from 9:00 - 11:15 a.m. Students will participate in outdoor events and activities that test their endurance and creativity. Classes will also take sides in an all-school Tug of War. PM Kindergarten children may attend if accompanied by an adult.

Many parent/guardian volunteers are needed for this special school activity. We need your help!
  • Event Hosts will receive all materials needed to set up and manage one field event station with student volunteers to help. Hosts will offer students encouragement and praise for their participation, and assist with station clean up. Host check-in will be at 8:30 a.m. in front of the school. Younger siblings are welcome to accompany hosts, just let us know so that we can help you choose an appropriate station. All hosts are required to have a current background check on file with LWSD, so when responding to volunteer, please note if you need a form. Also, let us know if you would like to be paired at your event station with an English-speaking volunteer.
  • Water Balloon Fillers will receive 30 small balloons and nozzle via Kid Mail the week prior to field day, and will need to return the filled balloons to school with your child in the morning on Wednesday, June 8. Drop containers will be located in front of the school.

Contact Field Day Chairs if you have any questions:

Please use link below to sign up to volunteer as a Host or Filler.

Thank You!
FIFTH GRADE PROMOTION - VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FROM OTHER GRADES
Our 5th graders are almost done with their elementary school years! It's time to celebrate them at a promotion ceremony with their families. It is a special Rockwell tradition that parents of other grades volunteer so the 5th grade families can enjoy the day! Can you help?

STUDENT COUNCIL/ROCKWELL - GIVE TO HOMELESS YOUTH
Dear Rockwell Families,
We are still taking donations to help support homeless youth in our community. Anything helps. We will conclude the drive on Friday May 27th. Thank you for your support!

HELP STUDENT COUNCIL COLLECT ITEMS
FOR HOMELESS YOUTH:
Drop Boxes outside the office: May 16th - 27th

BOOK ORDER FORMS - DUE MAY 27TH
Dear Parents,

This school year I visited your student's classroom and shared lessons about bullying prevention. Two of our guest authors this year are Lisa Graff and Linda Mullaly Hunt, speaking online and via Skype. Each class also had some lessons from our Second Step program, learning about managing feelings and calming our bodies and brains to solve problems. The Second Step web site has additional information for families about bullying prevention. Go to www.secondstep.org and use the activation keys:

Third Grade: BPU3 FAMI LY03
Fourth Grade: BPU4 FAMI LY04
Fifth Grade: BPU5 FAMI LY05

There are many children's books that support the themes of empathy, kindness, and problem solving that are part of our Second Step lessons. To start off SUMMER READING, your student can read one of the books that they heard a few chapters from in their classroom. I've included other excellent selections from our guest authors as well. To order their books listed below, submit the order form (download it here) and a check made out to: University Bookstore by May 27th. Books will be given to students before the last day of school.

TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK THANK YOU!
I would like to "raise UP" a BIG THANK YOU to the many volunteers who hung UP, showed UP, or stepped UP this past week to celebrate our wonderful Rockwell Teachers! From the students who wrote
heartfelt messages on balloons, to the Room Parents who organized class treats/gifts/activities and decorated around the theme, to the many amazing Parents who brought food in and/or volunteered their time to help set UP and clean UP the luncheons... The week would not have been a success without you! Please know that each and every one of you is appreciated!

A very special THANK YOU to Renee Lawson who thought UP every detail of the week. She truly was the mastermind behind it all! The hours of planning, prepping, and organizing did not go unnoticed... The
week was simply "done UP" perfectly and enjoyed by all!

YEARBOOK TEAM NEEDED NEXT YEAR
It takes a village . . . . . to create a fabulous yearbook!

Thank you to all those who contributed photos to create this year's book. Your kids are going to love it. A special shout out to Gaby Olson and Maya Shani for being my co-editors in crime - the book would not have gotten done without you.

We are recruiting for next year's yearbook editors - we have broken the yearbook job down into its four main jobs. Except photography, all the jobs can be done at home, at any time of day. And the LifeTouch software is easy to use.

Yearbook layout lead - are you a big picture person? All of the pages you see in our yearbook are filled with templates we've created over the past five years. You can use these or create new to set the stage for the general book layout.

Photography lead - coordinating photographs from each grade and all the special Rockwell events will help us get an equal representation of all students at Rockwell.

Yearbook creation (Position filled by Maya Ami-Ad - Thank you!) do you love to scrapbook? Well our yearbook is just an 88-page scrapbook. If you like to create the special pages and select the photos use, then this is the job for you.

Yearbook sales - are you great with a spreadsheet? The bulk of the yearbook sales are now during the back to school days. We just someone who can create the yearbook sales and distribution report.

FROM THE PTA TREASURER

Attention PTA Chairs:

The end of year is fast approaching so I hope everyone is working hard to get their receipts in order and submitted to me. Reimbursement forms can be found here and submitted to the treasurer's mailbox in the office.

The last day to submit receipts to me is Thursday June 9th. Those of you who have events during the last days of school, please submit them as quickly as possible. Email me if you have any questions.

The books close for the year as of June 30th, 2016 so we are not able to pay any reimbursements after that. Any reimbursement requests submitted after that date will be considered donations to the PTA.

Chairs, please make sure that all our volunteers are aware of the deadline as I don't have everyone's email address.

I hope everyone had a good year and thank you for all your hard work!

SCHOOL POOL - WALK/BIKE/CARPOOL TO SCHOOL

Calling all walkers, cyclists, and bus riders! Don't forget to sign week 3 on your SCHOOLPOOL half sheet.

We will be collecting them next week!

BOX TOPS AND LABELS FOR EDUCATION COLLECTION

Box Tops and Labels for Education will be collected the week of
May 23rd. While looking through the pantry for items to donate to Hopelink, be sure to clip and save those pink Box Tops and the Labels off Goldfish crackers and Campbell Soup products.

This is the LAST Labels for Education collection ever, as the program is being discontinued. We hope to collect enough labels to get more playground equipment for the students to enjoy! Box Tops will continue, so please continue to collect them throughout the summer.

Thank you for making these programs a success at Rockwell!
