YEARBOOK TEAM NEEDED NEXT YEAR
It takes a village . . . . . to create a fabulous yearbook!

Thank you to all those who contributed photos to create this year's book. Your kids are going to love it. A special shout out to Gaby Olson and Maya Shani for being my co-editors in crime - the book would not have gotten done without you.

We are recruiting for next year's yearbook editors - we have broken the yearbook job down into its four main jobs. Except photography, all the jobs can be done at home, at any time of day. And the LifeTouch software is easy to use.

Yearbook layout lead - are you a big picture person? All of the pages you see in our yearbook are filled with templates we've created over the past five years. You can use these or create new to set the stage for the general book layout.

Photography lead - coordinating photographs from each grade and all the special Rockwell events will help us get an equal representation of all students at Rockwell.

Yearbook creation - do you love to scrapbook? Well our yearbook is just an 88-page scrapbook. If you like to create the special pages and select the photos use, then this is the job for you.

Yearbook sales - are you great with a spreadsheet? The bulk of the yearbook sales are now during the back to school days. We just someone who can create the yearbook sales and distribution report.

SCHOOL POOL - WALK/BIKE/CARPOOL TO SCHOOL

We've had a great start to our SchoolPool Month! Wednesday Morning was our official "kickoff". Blitz, the Seahawks mascot, was at Rockwell to welcome everyone and cheer on those students who walked, biked, carpooled, or rode the bus to school. Reflective stickers for shoes were given out to all those who visited the front of the school that morning. And all bike riders received a new green bike bell!

A BIG Thank You to the wonderful Volunteers (Angie Ballas and Kit Craig) and Staff who joined Blitz to cheer on our students and pass out give-a- ways!!!

Don't forget to sign your students calendars weekly if they are walking, biking, carpooling, or taking the bus to school. Once the calendar is all signed (at least 1 week), send it back to school with your child. Each calendar turned in will earn $10 for Rockwell Elementary!

Thank you all for participating!

Beth Batig and Kerry Bauman

**You can email the Redmond SchoolPool staff at [email protected] if you have any concerns or questions!
BOX TOPS AND LABELS FOR EDUCATION COLLECTION

Box Tops and Labels for Education will be collected the week of
May 23rd . While looking through the pantry for items to donate to Hopelink on Movie Night, be sure to clip and save those pink Box Tops and the Labels off Goldfish crackers and Campbell Soup products.

This is the LAST Labels for Education collection ever, as the program is being discontinued. We hope to collect enough labels to get more playground equipment for the students to enjoy!

Thank you for making these programs a success at Rockwell!

ECOLOGY RUN UPDATE

Ecology Run fundraising update:

Thank you so much to the Rockwell community for supporting our fifth grade outdoor education fundraiser! We were overwhelmed with the generous response we received! When we include the expected matching funds - the school raised an amazing $10,789.09 that we were able to put towards the cost of camp for our kids.

Thank you all so much for your support - we couldn't go to camp without you!

Sincerely,
The fifth grade teachers and students
ROCKWELL'S 12TH ANNUAL USED BOOK SALE

Thank you students, parents, staff and community members for
making our Used Book Sale a great success.  We raised an amazing $1229.41 for the library! Your generosity will help put many new books on our school library shelves for students to enjoy. This project would not have been possible without the wonderful volunteers - students, parents and staff - who helped donate, price, organize, set-up, sell and clean-up the thousands of donated books.  A sincere thank you to all involved - volunteers, donors, and shoppers alike.  Have fun reading and start saving your gently used books for next spring's 13 th Annual Used Book Sale!

MATH OLYMPIAD CONGRATS

On Saturday May 7th, Norman Rockwell Elementary participated in Washington State Math Olympiad in Seattle on the premises of Dearborn Park International School. Congratulations to the two teams of 5th graders: Kirill U, Kashvi P, Tony W, Fredo G, Sohil B, Shivas K, Amol V, Shripad G. You showed good teamwork and collaboration.

Both teams won superior medals for the Short Session - Geometry, Number System, Ratios & Proportional Relationship, Statistics & Probability, Expressions and Equations.

Both teams got excellency ribbons for solving the Long Problem. This is one of the most challenging sessions for the elementary school students. Long problem solving prepares the students  towards the junior-high school, where written explanations, reasoning and accurate step-by-step instructions are essential part of the learning process. Solving real-life problems may need different viewpoint on the matter, implementing knowledge from math and sometimes combined with science to get to the reasonable answer.

Special thank you to the parents who support our students throughout the school life and add math excitement in their everyday life and to the parents-volunteers at the competition. We were very excited to participate in a fun event that enables students to show off their math skills and be recognized as Math Olympians.
