PRINCIPAL'S LETTER - JANUARY 2016

Dear Rockwell families,

Welcome to 2016! We have all missed you and are excited to see everyone's shining faces this week. As we head into a new year, I want to thank you all for your support in the process of student growth. I appreciate how often you ask questions, offer help, and are such engaged partners in the educational process. Thank you!

As many of you know, we have a few changes afoot as we head into the new year. First, Mrs. Sowby is home with her new little boy - please welcome Ms. Jayden Johansen into our kindergarten team. Also, Mrs. Terilli's class will be led by veteran Rockwell teachers Colleen Smith and Susan Hurst as we seek a replacement for Mrs. Terilli, who is leaving the classroom to attend to personal health issues. Finally, congratulations to Ms. White, who married over break. Her new husband also works in the Lake Washington School District, and we are delighted for both of them!

As we begin the new year, we are excited to continue to support one another in the growth of our students and in the growth of our school. Thank you for helping us make sure that in addition to learning and working hard here every day, that our students are reading every day, alone or with an adult, and that they have enough sleep each night, a healthy breakfast in the morning, time with you, and time to play. As proud as I am of the students your children are, I am equally proud and inspired to watch the people they are becoming - musicians, thinkers, actors, community members, and friends. They are fortunate to live in a community that thrives with diverse perspectives, and I am excited for the new year and all that it holds for them.

Happy New Year!

HERITAGE NIGHT - SPONSOR A COUNTRY/BOOTH
Rockwell's Heritage Night is quickly approaching on Fri, Jan. 22nd and is a wonderful opportunity for our families to learn more about our diverse community!

Approximately 15 "Country of Origin" tables/booths are available for anyone interested in participating. Participants will be given a tri-fold presentation board to decorate with interesting facts and artifacts from the country. Sharing music, games, and traditional clothing is also encouraged. There will be no food or potluck table this year (only prepackaged food or food prepared in a commercial kitchen is allowed).

Please contact Jennifer Myrick if you would like to sponsor a country/booth. Space is limited. This would make a great project for the winter break. More information and volunteer opportunities coming soon from the Heritage Night Chairs!

Thank you,
Jennifer Myrick/PTA CO-VP Events
VISION AND HEARING SCREENING DAY VOLUNTEERS

Rockwell's Vision and Hearing Screening Day will be on
Thursday, January 14th.

MANY parent volunteers are needed to make this day go smoothly for students and staff.  No experience is necessary.  School nurses from the district will train parent volunteers in screening.  A school nurse will recheck any child with a questionable screening result.  The only requirements are your time, willingness, and being an approved volunteer with the district.  Sorry, but no preschoolers/toddlers/infants are allowed to come along for this volunteer opportunity.

We are in need of volunteers for a morning shift (8:15-11:15am) or an afternoon shift (11:45am-2:00pm), or come for the full day (8:15am-2:00pm) for double the fun!  Lunch will be provided for full day volunteers.

Update: We still need 8 additional morning volunteers and 12 additional afternoon volunteers.

You can sign up to volunteer here on the Rockwell PTA Website.

Please contact us with any questions.

Thank you,
Jan Stemple and Karen Hernan

DINE OUT FOR ROCKWELL - RESTAURANT WEEK IS COMING

ROCKWELL RESTAURANT WEEK JANUARY 25 - 29th

Rockwell has an amazing school population! Due to that, we have stretched the typical "Dine out night" to last all week in hopes of providing an exceptional dining experience for both our school and the restaurants. For the week of January 25 - 29, local restaurants will contribute a portion of your dining total to Rockwell PTA.

We hope to offer families a time to spend quality time together, support a local establishment and build rapport with the community. The goal of this week is more than raising funds.

As an advertising appetizer, here are just a couple of your dining options:
Monday, Jan 25th: The Commons in Woodinville
Wednesday, the 27th: Purple in Woodinville

Stay tuned for the full menu of participating restaurants and dates!
