PRINCIPAL'S LETTER
Rockwell Rocks! Thank you to all students who participated in our Unity Day activities. Students wrote messages of friendship and welcome on rocks, in all 32 languages spoken by our students, and placed them all around the school. Students also made and handed out orange loom band bracelets, offering them to new friends and teaching one another how to make more. I am so proud of the warm and welcoming community our students and teachers have built, and love watching them find new ways to make sure every student at Rockwell feels safe every day, both emotionally and physically.

This Friday is our annual Halloween parade -- we will plan for an outdoor parade, but if rains prevent it, will have maps out for families when you arrive. Please know that wherever you stand, you will see all students pass by in the process of the parade.

We would also like to invite all veterans to join us for our Veteran's Day assemblies on Tuesday, November 10. Students in grades K, 1, and 2 will honor our veterans at an 8:45 assembly, and those in grades 3, 4, and 5 will honor our veterans at a 9:30 assembly. If you have a veteran in your family, please invite them to join us so that we may thank them for their service, and let me know who will be attending at [email protected].

Thank you, as always, for sharing your wonderful children with us.

COSTUME PARADE - DETAILS AND GUIDELINES
Hello Rockwell Families! As you may know, the Halloween parade at Rockwell is a long standing tradition.

The parade will be on October 30th, and we want to ensure that all children are safe and secure at this event.

Please make note:
  • The parade will begin at 2pm and will run for about 20 minutes.
  • Families are welcome to come and watch.
  • We will have clearly marked areas for family members to stand. We will hold the parade outdoors unless the weather prevents it.
  • Wherever you stand, you will see all students pass by, so please distribute yourselves evenly along the parade route.
  • Please leave strollers at home or at the front vestibule of the school.
  • Waving is fine, but please do not give high fives. This overwhelms some of our littler friends.
Children are invited to bring costumes for the parade. Please observe these rules:
  • Costumes must be brought (not worn) to school.Students will only have about 15 minutes to prepare for the parade.
  • Costumes should be worn over a child's clothing, if possible.
  • Students are allowed to apply face paint, but will have very little time to do so. Staff will not paint faces.
  • No hairspray or other aerosols at school.
  • All costumes must be appropriate for school and all ages here.
  • No blood or fake weapons of any kind are allowed.
  • Masks that restrict vision may not be worn. Neither can very scary masks ("Scream", etc.)
  • Teachers will have final say on whether a costume is appropriate for school.

If you do not wish your child to participate in the parade and celebrations, please let us know.

DISABILITY AWARENESS FAIR
Last Friday, our 4th graders participated in a unique experience, offering some insight into various challenges some of their peers with a disability may face.  It's an opportunity for our students to build empathy and understanding, along with giving them tools of how to be a good friend to their fellow classmate.  PARENTS - please use this as an opportunity to dialogue with your children about what they learned and possibly brainstorm more ideas of how they can continue to practice compassion and care for others.  And, if you'd like more information about this event or how to help, please contact:
