FAREWELL COFFEE FOR PARENTS - MONDAY MORNING!!

In honor of our departing friends, we'd like to invite all parents and community members to our Farewell Coffee on Monday, June 15th, at 8:30 am by the flagpole.

We'll have tables set up just after the last morning bell rings and we encourage everyone to have a cup of Joe and share your Rockwell stories.

Coffee will be provided. If you love to bake, please consider bringing a plate of cookies or snacks to share with other parents!

Let's get together for coffee!

Parents! We still need a volunteer for Welcome Back Coffee in September! This is an easy way to get involved and network with other parents, and the time commitment is almost negligible. Talk to Emily or Ellie to learn more about this fun Get-To-Know-You event.
FROM PRINCIPAL GOMETZ

Dear Rockwell Families,

What an amazing year!

This is always a very bittersweet time of year for those of us in education. As proud as we are to reach the finish line with your children, it also inevitably brings changes, and some goodbyes. We are SO PROUD of the learning your children have done this year, and of the growth we have seen. Getting our first peek at the photos in the yearbook confirms what we already knew: that these kids have grown immeasurably since they walked in the doors earlier this year. Some of these changes are visible; many aren't. The leadership skills, perseverance, curiosity, and bravery they have developed inspire us all. Our Rockwell Beagles are amazing.

This week we bid our fifth graders farewell as they head off to middle school and the adventures beyond. They are remarkable students and we foresee great things in their future. 5th Grade Families, please try to walk, if possible, to the promotion ceremony Wednesday morning. If you find you need to park in the neighborhood, please be courteous of our neighbors and make sure no driveways are blocked.

Thank you for sharing your children with us and for sharing this part of the journey. If we are bidding you farewell, we will miss you and hope you let us know whatever the road ahead holds. For those of you coming back in the fall, we hope you have a wonderful summer, that you all have a chance to play together, and that you all read, read, read!

We will be working with our PTA to run our first "Back to Business" Day on August 26 this year... times will be announced soon. Please mark your calendars to come on down and take care of all of the beginning of year paperwork Wednesday, August 26. Teacher assignments will be given on that day, as soon as all paperwork is completed and submitted. We will not be posting lists at Open House this year, which will be August 27 from 11 to noon.

Have a wonderful summer, and thank you for an amazing 2014-2015 school year!

5TH GRADE PROMOTION CEREMONY - WEDS. JUNE 17

Over 100 5th graders will be leaving Rockwell this year and we wish them the best of luck in Middle School and beyond.

The ceremony for families begins at 9 a.m. The gym doors open at 8:30 a.m. after the tardy bell rings. Please allow normal traffic flow through the parking lot in the morning. (Walk if possible!)

Thank you to the 5th grade promotion committee: Beth Batig, Chamu Kallem, Jayaletchime Jayaraman, Kit Craig, Nithya Nagarajan, Renee Lawson, Shilpa Asrani and Yukiko Tsukada for decorating, hospitality and clean up.  Special thanks to Jaya and Chamu for assembling the banners that the student's personalize with their memories of elementary school.  Much appreciation to Ms. Legg for coordination and Ms. Ward for invitations, certificates, and programs.

Good luck 5th graders and may everyone in our Rockwell community have a safe and happy summer.

Felice Nightengale

5th Grade Promotion Chair

P.S. We need a 3rd grade (entering 4th grade) parent to chair this committee next year. Email me if you're interested.

*5th Grade Promotion Chair and committee are traditionally made up of mainly 4th grade parents to allow the 5th grade parents to enjoy the day!

THANK YOU FIELD DAY VOLUNTEERS!

On behalf of the Field Day team we would like to thank all our parent volunteers. Without you, we couldn't have had such a great day, nor have it run so smoothly. You managed to keep everybody under control all while having water splashed on you, getting sticky from bubbles & having sand in your shoes. Special thanks also goes out to our awesome 5th graders who provided such an excellent example to the younger students this year by being on time & super helpful to all our parent volunteers. You should be very proud of yourselves!

CHAIRS & COMMITTEES NEEDED FOR NEXT YEAR!

We've elected our new board for next year but there are still a number of open chairperson positions that need filling!

  • Chess Club
  • PTA Reflections (Art)
  • Heritage Night

...and a few more REALLY need a chair asap. Chair or co-chair with a friend or two. (Chairing a position does not mean you're on the PTA Board!)  We really don't want to cancel these programs, but they can't run without a chairperson(s)

Click here for remaining positions! Thanks for your consideration.

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL FORMS GOING ONLINE!

We are excited to announce that many of our first day packet forms for the 2015 - 2016 school year will be going online (in an effort to help streamline the process for years to come!).  Parents will soon be able to access and complete many district forms and PTA forms (including volunteer sign-ups, ordering and paying for items, joining PTA and more) prior to the Open House in late August.

Please stay tuned for more information of the new online process!

In the meantime, visit our PTA Website and register for your account if you haven't already: www.normanrockwellpta.org

LWSD CONTACT/EMERGENCY FORMS GOING ONLINE

New for August - Change your contact/emergency information online!

Are you tired of filling out your contact information on the emergency form every year? Wouldn't it be nice to just review your students' information and submit changes online, at your convenience? This August, you will get your chance to do just that.  You will be able to log in to Parent Access, click on Family Access, and verify your student's information. Make any needed changes then click submit and be done.  More information on the Online Student Information Verification process will be posted on the district website in July.

If you don't have a Parent Access account, now would be a good time to set one up.  Just go to the Parent Access page on the district website for more information. Then you will be ready in August to take care of your emergency information online.

SUMMER IXL - MATH PRACTICE
IXL Online Math - Practice all summer to stay sharp or work
ahead!

Parents - your student's online IXL username and password is active
through the end of August! Just 30 minutes a day or two IXL skills will
keep your student's math skills sharp. They can review their current
grade or get started on next year.

Thanks to the Lake Washington Schools Foundation for the free
subscription access to IXL and to the Rockwell PTA for the prizes. And
a big thank to parents for helping to grow a math culture here at
Rockwell.

BOX TOPS SUMMER CLIPPING! OCTOBER CONTEST!
Thank you to everybody who clipped and collected Box Tops this year!
We had a great contest; earned $1047 toward recess equipment and the kids were very excited as they watched their totals rise for their class.
Let's keep the excitement going all summer long!

Clip and save all of your Box Tops during the summer because we are having a CONTEST IN OCTOBER!

Here is a link for you to print out a collection sheet for your child to color and add their Box Tops. Summer Collection Sheet! Keep it in a safe place and return them in October for a new Contest!

Saving your Box Tops in a Ziploc bag is a good idea, too.
