PTA ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • Students will enjoy a fun and educational "Gollyology" science assembly this week. This is a follow up to the Science Circus assembly we had from Rhys Thomas last year. He incorporates concepts of science and physics into a very engaging assembly, including juggling, balance, and spinning items, and involves lots of kids, too. Thanks go to the PTA for bringing Rhys back this year -- he was requested again by students and staff!
  • Congratulations to Rockwell parent Felice Nightengale (our Rockwell webmaster) who was presented with The Community Service Award at the LWPTSA Council's Founders Day Luncheon. This award is given to someone in the community who works on behalf of all children and youth and promotes high standards in education. This person believes in, practices, and encourages community involvement and service.

Felice volunteers not only in her own children's schools, but also in other schools and in the community.  She has been active in the PTA Reflections program at the school and Council level.  She helps with website development for PTAs.  In the greater community she also works for a nonprofit animal companion center, is a Campfire program leader and activity promotes "Buy local" initiates in the Redmond community.

  • Ami King was elected to the PTA board as VP of Volunteer Services at the General Membership Meeting last Thursday night. Welcome to the team and thank you for stepping up!
  • Attention Techies:  PTA needs someone to create a short video (about Rockwell PTA and Pass The Hat) that is shown to parents at Curriculum night. We will provide pics and details...you make it look good! Interested?  Contact Cari Scotkin.
  • Next PTA General Membership Mtg, Thursday 5/28 at 7pm - please mark your calendars and join us.
  • Please Register TODAY for your account on the New PTA Website. Starting next year, most of the first day packet will be online and donating to Pass The Hat, paying the PTA membership fee, and ordering spirit wear, yearbooks and event tickets will be easy as 1,2,3!

SPELLING BEE UPDATE - REGIONAL SPELLING BEE

Rockwell 5th grader (and our school's spelling bee champ), Sayan B performed beautifully over the weekend in the Regional Spelling Bee that took place in Seattle at Town Hall. There were 71 eager students, the majority of whom made it through the first 2 rounds. The third round proved challenging and was the end of the road for several students but Sayan prevailed using his successful technique of patience and articulation. He entered the 4th round where the words increased significantly in difficulty and Sayan as well as many others were eliminated. Sayan will never forget how to correctly spell "sustentacular"! He did great and made Rockwell proud!

Congratulations from all of us at Rockwell!
