PLANNING FOR NEXT YEAR:

The time has come to start planning for next year! We will be in need of more Rockwell parents to chair or co-chair positions on both the PTA Board as well as committees and special events for next year. Please be thinking about the ways you can help our school and keep an eye out for a more detailed announcement coming soon.

 

In the meantime, if you can be a part of our Nominating Committee (helping us find great people), please email Rockwell PTA's President Cari Scotkin at rockwellptapresident@gmail.com

 

RECESS SUPPLIES COLLECTION:

Parents:  With the weather getting nicer, we are looking for more supplies for recess fun.  If you have extra jump ropes, balls, sidewalk chalk, sketch pads and pencils, loom bands etc, please send the donation to your child's teacher with a note that it's for the Recess Collection or bring in to the collection box in the office. 

SPELLING BEE - FEBRUARY 21ST AT 9AM

It's almost here!! The Spelling Bee club will be holding the Final Rockwell School Spelling Bee competition on Saturday, Feb. 21st, at 9am in the school library.

 

All parents, teachers and staff are cordially invited to attend and help cheer on these courageous and bright students!

 

We have 28 students from grades 1-5 competing for the title of Rockwell Spelling Champion. The competition will begin at 9am and end at approximately 1pm followed by an Awards Ceremony at 2pm.

 

Key upcoming dates:

 

  • Thurs. Feb 19th, 3-4:15pm: LAST Spelling Bee Club session for all final bee spellers to review rules and practice mock bee
  • Sat. Feb 21st, 9am-1pm: FINAL SCHOOL SPELLING BEE, check in at 8:45am please!
  • Sat (Feb 21st) at 2pm: Award Ceremony

EVENTS UPDATE - UPCOMING EVENTS

ICE CREAM SOCIAL CHAIR/CO-CHAIRS NEEDED ASAP!

This favorite family event on May 21 cannot run without a chair! 

Duties include:

  • Communicating details of event with the school & PTA
  • Creating announcements for the Bugle, and signage or flyers for the school community
  • Ordering Ice Cream & supplies
  • Coordinating volunteers to sign up to sell tickets, set up/clean up and runners for ice cream and supplies to the stations
  • Teachers traditionally serve the ice cream at this fun event!
  • This event runs concurrently with the Used Book Sale (coordinated by the librarian) and the Art Showcase (coordinated by the Art Docent Chair)

ALL SCHOOL DANCE PARTY!!
Friday, March 20th from 6-8pm
at Redmond High School 

This is your chance to glow at the All school NEON GLOW 

DANCE PARTY. You can dress in bright neon colors, wear your black light sensitive outfits and anything that lights up, like led shirts. So light up the room with all the crazy glow neon stuff you can find and Be The Glow. Children must be accompanied by an adult. 


 

The planning is underway, the DJ is booked, now we need YOUR help to make it all happen. Can you spare a little time to set up, sell tickets or concessions, or act as safety patrol? Shifts are short and volunteers get free admission: SIGN UP HERE

YEARBOOK - UPCOMING PHOTO OPS!

We Still Need Photos for Upcoming Events

Parents - the yearbook needs your photos of our great kids. We need
photos for the following upcoming events, classes and clubs:

- All classroom Valentines Day parties this week

- Parents of orchestra and band students - we need photos of your amazing musicians during the early morning rehearsals and at the upcoming concerts

- 1st grade Toymaker visit on February 20th and the President's Wax Museum on Feb. 19th.

- Spelling Bee club final competition photos

- Coding with Kids club photos

- LEGO club

- Math club

If you can help, please let us know which event you will be photographing - and we will send you the LifeTouch upload
instructions or you can send a USB drive to the office and I'll get it
back to you. We look forward to seeing all of the great moments you
capture!

ROCKWELL MUSICAL REGISTRATION - APPLY by 2/17

Calling all 4th and 5th grade actors, singers, dancers and entertainers (or that have any interest in performing), come be part of Rockwell's school musical! No experience necessary. Rockwell PTA, in partnership with Youth Theater Northwest, is excited to present Disney's The Little Mermaid JR. 


 

Registration packets are now available to download online at  Norman Rockwell PTA or you may pick up a copy in the office.

  • Application deadline is Tues., Feb. 17 at 3:00 p.m. (no exceptions)
  • Mandatory parent meeting is Tues., Feb. 24 from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the Rockwell Library
  • Auditions/Call Backs are March 2-4, and all-cast read-through is March 5. Mon., Tues. and Thurs. from 3:15 - 5:00 p.m., and Wed. from 1:45 - 4:00 p.m.
  • Rehearsals with call dates/times for each cast member are posted at the beginning of each week and run March 9 through April 16 on Mon., Tues. and Thurs. from 3:15 - 5:00 p.m., and Wed. from 1:45-4:00 p.m. No rehearsals on Fridays or during LWSD Spring Break, April 6-10. The musical director to try to accommodate some schedule conflicts; however, rehearsals on April 13-16 are mandatory.
  • Tech Week is April 20-24, and rehearsals are mandatory for all cast members. Mon., Tues., Thurs. and Fri. are evening rehearsals from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at RPAC, and Wed. from 1:45-4:00 p.m. at Rockwell.
  • Performances are Sat., April 25 at 3:00 and 7:00 p.m. at the Redmond Performing Arts Center (RPAC)

Start clipping and saving your Box Tops for Education

We will have an All School Box Tops Contest starting May 4th - more information coming soon!

-Donate your used books (kids, adults, cookbooks etc...) to the Rockwell library for our Used Book Sale in May!

 

-Donate your USB mice to the office for use in familiarizing our students to prepare for the upcoming State testing.

 

-Rockwell's Health Room needs more parents to help "staff" the Health Room during busy times of day such as lunchtime and recess. If you can spare a few hours a month, please email Melissa Sutton

Bugle Article Submissions Welcome
  
The Beagle Bugle welcomes article submissions from students and parents.  Student journalists may submit articles about current events, students opinion-editorials and poems or short stories.  Parents may submit articles about PTA events and school related topics. 

Any article that is unrelated to PTA or Rockwell must be approved by the Lake Washington School District, and will be posted on the Community Bulletin Board.  The Lake Washington School District website has more information on the submission and approval process.

Short pieces will be edited for inclusion in the Bugle, longer pieces will be posted on the website with a link in the Bugle.  The Deadline for submissions for the next weekly Bugle is the preceding Thursday.  The Bugle Staff reserves the right to be selective regarding the materials that are publicized.
