VISION AND HEARING SCREENING VOLUNTEERS

Parent volunteers are needed to assist with Rockwell's Vision and Hearing Screening Day NEXT ThursdayJanuary 15th.  No experience is necessary.  School nurses from the district will train parent volunteers in screening.  A school nurse will recheck any child with a questionable screening result.  The only requirements are your time, willingness, and being an approved volunteer with the district.

We are in need of 11 more volunteers for our morning shift (8:15-11:15am) and 14 more volunteers for the afternoon shift (11:45am-2:30pm), or sign up for the full day (8:15am-2:30pm) for double the fun!  Lunch is provided for full day volunteers!

Please contact Jan Stemple with your questions or to volunteer.

Thank you,

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Rockwell families,

Welcome back! I hope you all had a wonderful two weeks with your children. I can't wait to see everyone back in the classrooms and ready to learn, and to hear all of their stories about how they have spent their break.

As we embrace this time of new beginnings, I wanted to let you know I have officially changed back to the name I was born with: Kirsten GometzThe name dates from one of my Swedish ancestors, taken from the name of a village in Spain in which he was stationed a long time ago.  It's pronounced just as if you are rooting for the baseball team ("Go Mets!").

For the time being, you can still reach me at [email protected]. I know it will take everyone some time to adjust, but wanted to take a moment to introduce you to the new/old version of your principal. It feels great to get back to my roots.

Dates to remember:
January 15: Vision and Hearing Screening
January 22: Heritage Night
January 19: NO SCHOOL/Martin Luther King Jr. Day
January 27, 29, 30: Elementary Conferences (11:30 Student Release)

Happy New Year! Welcome to 2015.

CODING WITH KIDS WINTER REGISTRATION NOW OPEN
Coding with Kids is a computer programming club founded by Rockwell parents Marek Brejl and Jitka Brejlova. This winter, Coding with Kids will be offering both a Beginner and an Intermediate Class. The new advanced class is designed for kids who have previously attended a Coding with Kids program and are ready to learn more advanced concepts by creating multi-player, multi-level computer games! Expect short lessons, lots of hands-on coding, and FUN projects. Then double the fun by sharing your creations with your parents online and playing your games with your friends!

Classes are taught in Scratch, a drag-and-drop programming environment developed by MIT Labs: http://scratch.mit.edu. To quickly see what kids can do with Scratch, we recommend watching this little video
