What to work on this week...
For most golf operations (whether year round or seasonal), except for our far Southern friends, you are now at about the half way point of your golf season. This week and next we want to remind you of some mid-season check points and give you some ideas to move into part two of your season on a high note. This week we will focus on financials:

1. Revenues and Expenses
  • While looking back at your last six months is important the key now is to look forward to the next six. Are you meeting the goals that you set for green fees, carts, range, merchandise, food and beverage etc and if not what changes can be made right now.
  • Are their opportunities in the areas that are performing well to bolster these revenues even further? Can expenses be trimmed in the areas that are under-performing?
  • Do you set 90 day goals apart from looking at your annual budget? With a shorter 90 day time frame you can take into account the year's trends, re-focus your efforts for a shorter time frame and give yourself and your team a motivational push to achieve these shorter term goals. These short term goals will also focus your marketing messages for the next 3 months.
2. Full Team Effort
  • Getting your team involved in goal setting and goal monitoring is important to achieving your goals. Are your managers fully aware of the revenues, expenses, budgets and actuals for their own department? Are their teams aware of the higher level goals that their department is striving to achieve?
  • While summer is a difficult time to schedule a staff meeting it is important to praise accomplishments to date, share the goals for the coming months and encourage team buy-in.
Next week we will check-in on internet marketing and customer feedback.

If you would like to discuss goal setting further give us a call at 604-506-2226 anytime. We are here to get your team motivated, to help them understand the importance of a new initiative and to guide them through it. Read more about our Strategic Planning services on our website.
Best BC Wines - Deep Roots
We were introduced to Deep Roots winery just this year at the spring Naramata wine tasting. We were drawn to their booth by their logo and to the family members manning the tasting station.

The Deep roots logo is a corkscrew with four roots coming out of the bottom to represent the four generations of the Hardman family who have owned and farmed the land (as an orchard) for 100 years before turning it into a winery. They were friendly, genuine and enthusiastic and made us want to like their wine before we even tasted it.

We tasted seven varieties and found three standouts that we will try again.

Social Media in the World
For those of you with operations in British Columbia have you checked out the hashtag #exploreBC?

Explore BC is a Destination BC program that last year encouraged more than 21,000 people to share their BC experiences with their friends and family on Instagram and Twitter using #exploreBC. Last year's potential reach of the program was more than 30-million people around the world. Post cards with the #exploreBC hashtag are available for pick up by visitors at tourism offices and many local facilities. So how can you be a part of the program?

1. Check the twitter stream to see if anyone is tweeting in your area (follow #explorebc and the keyword for your own location) and join into the conversation. You may be able to provide a comment or advice about a local area activity or your own property.

2. Check the hashtag #exploreBC on Instagram for the same.

3. Use the #explorebc hashtag on your own posts when appropriate. This could be a great golf course pic or an upcoming event.
