What to work on this week...
So you are now in full swing with your social media efforts, but how do you make sure that people are seeing your posts?

Facebook continues to change the rules (weekly it seems) but it is clear that if you pay they will come. That is, if you spend a few bucks with Facebook you can get the right people (very targeted) to see your posts and like your page. Facebook gives you the option to pay to promote your page (to get more likes) and also to boost a post (get more eyes on one particular post.)

Take the time this week to promote your page to increase your likes and next week we will discuss boosting a post.

1. Log into your Facebook page, click the blue "Promote" tab near the top right and choose "Promote Your Page".

2.  You can keep the ad preview that is generated from the elements already on your page or add a specific image and text to create your ad.

3. The most important step is choosing your audience. Choosing your province or specific local cities is easy. Choosing 4 to 10 interests is a bit more complicated. You can choose 'Golf' as an interest but you can also choose other pages that Facebook users may have liked such as 'PGA Tour', 'Golf Channel' etc.

4. Set your budget (as low as $1 per day) and the length of days to run the ad. Facebook will give you an estimate of how many new page likes each daily amount will get you but we suggest testing for yourself with various $ amounts for various time periods over different days of the week.

5. Analyze the results. How many new fans did you get and who are they?

If you are not yet comfortable enough with Facebook to try promoting your page read our Facebook Best Practices to get your Facebook efforts started.

Best BC Wines
A series of newsletters from us would not be complete without some food, wine or travel recommendations thrown in.

We started a new feature on our 19th Hole Blog called 'Best BC Wines' with our first featured winery being Serendipity. The winery is located on the Naramata Bench, near Penticton, BC. We discovered this winery at a trade tasting event in downtown Vancouver and have a visit to the winery planned for September. The Serendipity philosophy centers around good food paired with great wine and not surprisingly this is one of our favorite things to talk about. Serendipity has up to 14 varieties available at any time and we found a few new favorities in their Viognier and Pinot Noir.

Make More Sales
Everyone in your organization needs to understand that they are in sales. We can help with that process. We have a proven system to engage and train your team on the art of selling using the internet. We are in the golf business, not selling used cars. Sales is easy when you have the right process.

Jeff gave a Sales presentation to the PGA of BC Kootenay chapter in April. Here is the slide deck. Some slides will not make sense without the talk to go with them but it will give you an idea of what areas of internet marketing and sales we focus on to generate revenue. The session was video recorded by the PGA and when it is available we will share the details.
Social Media in the World
Pinterest has an advantage over other social media platforms in that 'it sells shit'. Pinterest's focus on goods is unique in the social media landscape. It's users (women in their 30s with young families) have made it into a shopping network of sorts. Users can go straight from a Pinterest board to a sellers website.

So how can golf course operators get in on the action? The first step is to create visually appealing photos of your products and representations of your services that people want to share. And those that start now will be in a better position as Pinterest continues to grow, begins to release it's user data and starts to provide better tools for business to take advantage of. This wave is coming, so get on a 'Pinterest' Board (pardon the pun) now.
