Last Day of School

The Board of Education has approved the end of the year calendar - Thursday, June 4, 2015, is scheduled as the last attendance day for all half-day programs (Kindergarten, Pre-Kindergarten and Early Childhood); Friday, June 5, 2015, as the last student attendance for grades 1 through 8 with a noon dismissal; and, Monday, June 8, 2015, the last teacher work day.

Please note - Even with this approval, an amendment would be necessary in the event of an emergency day before the end of the year.


Board of Education Reorganization Meeting 

New Board of Education members will be welcomed to the Board and new Board officers will be selected at the upcoming May 4 special Board of Education meeting, 7 p.m. District 41 Central Services Office, 793 N. Main Street, Glen Ellyn. The meeting is open to the public.



Facilities Community Task Force 

Please join us to learn more about the Facilities Community Task Force at an information session on Wednesday, May 6, 7 p.m. - 8 p.m. at Churchill Elementary School. The format of the meeting will include a welcome by Superintendent Gordon, an outline of the process moving forward, and an opportunity for attendees to help guide the logistics of the task force. All community members, with or without children in school, are welcome to attend.
 



Welcome to New Hadley Assistant Principal 

Mr. Bob Guzzetti will be joining the Hadley staff as an Assistant Principal effective July 1, 2015. Mr. Guzzetti began his career in education in Addison School District 4 as a school psychologist. His first year in Addison was spent at the elementary level before moving on to spend the next thirteen years at Indian Trail Junior High School. While at Indian Trail, he assumed a number of leadership positions including Special Education Department Chair and interim Assistant Principal.

Mr. Guzzetti earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago with a Bachelor's of Science in Finance and Management. He spent several years working in the insurance industry before returning to school to pursue a career as a school psychologist.

Mr. Guzzetti also earned a master's degree followed by an Educational Specialist Degree in Educational Psychology from National Louis and a master's degree in Educational Leadership (Chief School Business Official) from Northeastern Illinois University. Following completion of these degrees, Mr. Guzzetti completed coursework for both the General Administrative and the Director of Special Education endorsements. He is described by his supervisors as hardworking, conscientious, highly organized, collaborative, and an effective communicator.

Mr. Guzzetti will be replacing Mrs. Gina Krizman who has accepted a position in West Aurora School District 129 as Student Services Curriculum Coordinator for grades 6-12.

 

Outstanding PTA Council Award

Congratulations to the PTA Council for being awarded the Outstanding Council award from the Illinois PTA! The award was presented at the Illinois PTA Conference in Peoria on April 18. "The requirements for this award was to show how your Council held an event to uphold the mission or purposes of the PTA," said Lori Taylor, Glen Ellyn Council for PTA. "The PTA Mission is to make every child's potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children. Our Council achieved this mission along with the PTA Values of collaboration, commitment, respect, accountability through our Safety Fair. We truly engaged the district, teachers, community members, park district, businesses all for the benefit of our children. This could not have been achieved without the diligent work and leadership of Safety Chairs, Kristin Massey-Kramer and Susan Lange, alongside the Safety Chairs and members of every school."

Abraham Lincoln Elementary Students Honored by Illinois Principals Association

Lincoln students Nikki Tyburg and Lilli Brenig were recognized by the DuPage Illinois Principals Association as outstanding elementary students. "Nikki and Lilli embrace the "Lincoln Spirit" every minute of everyday," said Lincoln Principal Linda Schweikhofer. "Their acts of kindness and positive spirits are contagious. Both girls are great examples of D41 Learning Characteristics in action!"
