Survey Says
At the direction of the Board of Education, a survey specific to full-day kindergarten was developed and administered from October 7 to October 21. The survey generated 642 responses. Thank you to all who participated!
See below for the breakdown of respondents by category. Please note: The respondent category numbers will not add up to the 642 total. The respondents could have identified with multiple categories.
- 374 - Parent of a future kindergartener who will attend District 41
- 373 - Parent or guardian of a child currently enrolled in District 41
- 128 - Community member with no children in currently enrolled in District 41
- 156 - District 41 staff member
To summarize, 446 or 69 percent of respondents "believe District 41 should implement full-day kindergarten." Of the 222 "comments" written by respondents, the analysis revealed that 162 are for full-day kindergarten in District 41, 35 against, and 25 undecided.
Full-day kindergarten will continue to be a topic of conversation at Board of Education meetings. Board meetings are open to the public. Superintendent Gordon will host a Town Hall Meeting on December 3, 6 - 7 p.m. at the Hadley Junior High Library Media Center, 240 Hawthorne in Glen Ellyn. Dr. Gordon will start the town hall meeting by engaging the community on the topic of full-day kindergarten.

Churchill Student Shares Life Story
Soe Ka Maw is a Burmese student who came to Churchill last spring from a refugee camp in Thailand. Although he is in the early stages of acquiring English, he worked with his teachers and created a "photo story" video as a way to share his life story with his classmates. This video is an example of the incredible teaching and learning happening across the district.

 Board of Education Meeting The Board of Education met this past Monday, November 10. Click here for the meeting materials including audio of the meeting and presentations about full-day kindergarten and academic achievement.
The next Board of Education meeting will take place on Monday, November 24 at 7:30 p.m. at the District 41 Central Services Office, 793 N. Main Street, Glen Ellyn. A finance committee meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. In addition, a public hearing regarding the transfer of funds for elementary school additions will take place at 7:15 p.m. Board meetings are open to the public.
