GRANT FUNDS HADLEY INSTRUMENT LOCKERS
Visitors to Hadley may notice handsome wood cabinets lining the main hallway, cabinets made possible in large part by a $25,000 grant from the DuPage Community Foundation's (DCF) Young People's Music Initiative. The grant, one of only six awarded by DCF, supports that organization's conviction that young people who play music lead better, more rewarding lives and fits well with the goal of Hadley's instrumental music program: to cultivate lifelong patrons of music through learning and performing on their instrument. The grant (augmented by some district dollars and a contribution from the Music Education Foundation) paid for new and better instrument storage lockers to replace (and add to) the aging units that dated from 1956, when Hadley was built. The foundation has invited Hadley to apply for a grant renewal and the school will soon submit its request for a grant that will enable it to buy expensive bassoons and basses, repair existing instruments, purchase technology for instruction and performance, and pay fees for guest musicians to work with students.

"The judges said they were very impressed by the Hadley String Orchestra's ability and sound of our string ensemble," said Orchestra Director Georgia Alemis.
