Happy New Year!

I found myself humming the tunes from the movie "Frozen" these first few days of the new year! Brrrr! I'm glad those record breaking days are behind us and hope the remaining days of winter are mild.

Outdoor Recess

Most of our students LOVE playing in the snow during recess. Snowmen, forts, and snow sculptures are often scattered across the back field after a fresh snow. In order to play in the snow, students must be wearing snow pants and boots.

Children not wearing snow gear are directed to play on the cement and blacktop areas behind the school. These areas are plowed after each snow.

As a reminder, all D41 elementary schools follow the same temperature guidelines for outdoor recess. Students go outside on days that the temperature (based on the wind-chill factor) is 10 degrees or higher. Please be sure your children leave the house in the morning with hats and gloves.

We have had some great winter weather days recently. It is a real joy to see students frolicking in the snow.  It makes my day!

Another Weather Related Notice

On mornings when the temperature is less that 10 degrees, students will be able to enter the building at specific locations rather than waiting outdoors until 8:50 A.M.. Staff will be stationed at the front entrance, Door 4 and Door 25 (near Portables 3-6). Large green cones will be set outside these doors at 8:40 as a signal to students to come inside. The LMC will be used as a warming station for Level 2 and 1st Grade students and the open area in the west wing will be used for Level 3 and Kindergarten students.

TOMMOROW 1/17/14 ! Wear Red for Heart Health!

Lincoln School will be participating in a Jump Rope for Heart event during their PE class on February 13th. In preparation for this event, the PTA is sponsoring a heart-healthy assembly tomorrow. Students will hear about American Heart Association Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser, learning strategies to promote a healthy heart, and watch the Jump Rope Warrior performing amazing  jump rope feats.

Please note: While all students will be participating in the Jump Rope for Heart event, fund raising for the American Heart Association is optional.

Intruder Drill - Safety Video

Each year, students participate in Fire, Tornado, and Lock-Down safety drills. This year our students will view a safety video prior to participating in the school-wide lock-down drill. The video reviews the "Locks, Lights, Out of Sight" process we teach students in the event of an intruder in the building.
