FIREARMS PROHIBITED SIGNS TO BE INSTALLED IN DISTRICT BUILDINGS

This past summer, Illinois passed Public Act 98-63, the Firearm Concealed Carry Act, which allows properly licensed individuals to carry concealed firearms. School districts and other entities that prohibit firearms are required by this law to display a sign provided by the state to make it clear that firearms may not be brought onto the premises.

District 41 will be placing these signs by the main entrances of its buildings over winter break. Additional signs will be placed at the secondary entrances used by the park district or YMCA for their programs, and by the stairs of the portable units.

Firearms (other than those carried by law enforcement) are prohibited in all of our buildings and grounds. To see what the 4-inch X 6-inch signs will look like, click here. You may wish to show this sign to your child and explain that they may see this sign at their school and that it is meant to help keep the school a safe environment. For more information about the Concealed Carry law, please visit the Illinois State Police Web site.
