PLEASE COME! LEGISLATIVE FORUM APRIL 22
The District 41 PTA Council is hosting a
Legislative Forum on education issues in Illinois on Monday, April 22 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at Hadley Junior High School, 240 Hawthorne Blvd. in Glen Ellyn. Topics for the evening's panel-style, Q&A discussion will include school funding, the impact of the Illinois tax hike expiration on schools, pension funding, the STEAM/STEM approach, school safety and PARCC (The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers). Panelists will include Sandra Pihos, State Representative, 42nd district; Kirk Dillard, State Senator, 24th district; Peg Agnos, Executive Director of the Legislative Education Network of DuPage County; Bob Ciserella, D41 Assistant Superintendent of Finance, Facilities and Operations; and Bill Enright, Professor, College of DuPage. Parents and community members are encouraged to attend this information-packed evening to help keep informed on the issues facing education in our state and how they impact our children.

SECOND ANNUAL POW! TO BE HELD ON MAY 11 AT HADLEY 
POW! stands for Powerful Outstanding Women and it's Hadley's second annual event for all girls in 6th-8th grade, along with those special women in their lives (moms, aunts, grandmothers, etc.). It will begin with dynamic keynote speaker Tiffany Bruessard and will feature many activities including Cheerobix, yoga, journaling/art, nutrition, African dance, vision boarding, an all-female improvisation troupe, raffles, give-aways and more. POW! was conceived of by Hadley teacher Hillary Shumate who enlisted the support of the Hadley PTA and community organizations to provide an event to inspire girls and help them meet their full potential. This free event will take place on Saturday, May 11, from 8:00 a.m.-noon at Hadley.

GLEN ELLYN CHILDREN'S RESOURCE CENTER THURSDAY EVENT

Ten Thousand Villages in Glen Ellyn will donate a portion of its sales to the Glen Ellyn Children's Resource Center on Thursday, April 18 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. The GECRC provides after-school and summer programs for at-risk children. Enjoy refreshments and shop for Mother's Day, graduation and beyond at this fair trade shop full of gifts from around the globe. Ten Thousand Villages is located at 499 Pennsylvania Avenue, Glen Ellyn.

Community members are invited to the Glenbard Parent Series worshop "Mindset: Why and How People Succeed and How to Foster Success," presented by Carol Dweck, Ph.D. Dr. Dweck is a motivational psychologist and the best selling author of "Mindset: The Psychology of Success." There will be two opportunities to hear Dr. Dweck: on Thursday, May 9, at noon, at Glenbard South High School, 23 W 200 Butterfield Rd., Glen Ellyn and at 7:00 p.m. at Glenbard West High School, 670 Crescent Blvd., Glen Ellyn.
