Welcome fellow dog-lovers to the latest issue of Paw Prints! It's hard to believe it's State Fair time which means school is right around the corner. Don't forget that Paws & Pals offers school for dogs too. Our next Level 1 and Level 2 obedience classes begin on Sept. 9th. Even if your dog has already been through a similar class, these are great refresher courses. Repetition is key to having a well trained pet.....and owner :) Every few months we host a house training seminar from 10:00 to 11:15 am. on Sunday. Please call for more information or to be notified for the next session. Did you know we also offer personalized one-on-one programs to work on specific behavioral issues? Is Your Dog Singing the Back to School Blues?
|
Is your dog singing the back to school blues? Back-to-school season is a time of transition for the whole family, as parents and children begin to adjust to a new routine. It's also a difficult time for pets, who have grown accustomed to some extra attention during summer vacation. Dogs especially are extremely social and enjoy being around people. Here are a few tips to make the adjustment easier for your pet! - Don't make a big deal out of arrivals and departures. For example, when you arrive home, ignore your dog for the first few minutes then calmly pet him.
- Get your pet use to being home alone. This is called "alone time" but should only be done in small increments of time to start with. It is later extended until the school day ends and the kids are back at home.

Megan M.
Customer Service
Megan joined the Paws & Pals Customer Service team in March 2014. She has completed training for understanding canine body language and pack behavior. She has also received her Canine Basic certification from the International Boarding and Pet Sitting Association (IBPSA). Megan is currently working on a degree in Radiation Therapy at Argosy University. She has always had a passion for caregiving whether people or pets. Megan says, "my favorite thing about my position at Paws & Pals is that I get the best of both worlds, working with people as well as dogs! I grew up loving dogs and I always managed to bring more and more home to my family (without them knowing). We almost always had four dogs at once!"
Outside of work Megan enjoys being active with her dog Cali, a 1.5 year-old English Golden Retriever. She also has four dogs at her parents' home in Iowa. A black lab named Bella, a yellow lab (Brute) and two Shih Tzus, Daisy and Emily. She likes to go shopping and enjoys volunteering at the Ronald McDonald house in Minneapolis as well as helping with the Angel Foundation.

Hartlee
Hartlee is an 8 month-old Brittany Spaniel. She was born in Reno, Nevada. As soon as her pet parents saw her heart marking on the top of her head, they wanted her. She spent her early months in Utah, so she's used to desert and dryness. Even at a young age she was a great hiker. She loves other dogs and dog lovers so much. Dog walks are total social events. She wants to please and be active. Her pet mom says, "we love having her play with other dogs and socializing with the wonderful staff."
Hartlee has been to Paws & Pals for daycare and boarding. Her pet mom says, "we love all your caretakers, and feel so reassured when we drop our Lady Hartlee off to play with her friends. She can't wait to get in the door. We enjoy seeing all the dogs/owners as they come and go. Everything is such a great experience there. So friendly!"
