PARKING SAFETY

SÉCURITÉ SUR LE PARKING

The safety of our children is vital.

We ask that you please respect the traffic rules. Pedestrians

always have priority on our campus and we ask that you please stop if anyone is crossing the streets in the parking lot.

Thank you for driving safely around our children.

SDFAS IS PROUD OF OUR ALUMNI - CLASS OF 2015

The current high school seniors who were SDFAS 8th
grade graduates in 2011 are an amazing group of young adults.

They worked hard at SDFAS, went to high school very prepared and some of them have now been accepted into some of the most prestigious universities in North America.

 Congratulations!

Here's where they will go to college in the fall:

Princeton, MIT, Columbia University (New York), New York University, McGill (Canada), Centenary College of New Jersey,  and Northeastern University (Boston).

In California, they will go to University of California Santa Cruz, University of Southern California, University of San Diego, and Mira Costa College.

In Europe: Engineering Prep School.

 They are outstanding!

8TH GRADERS TO CANADA

The 8th grade cultural and linguistic trip to Montreal took off on Sunday and will return on Friday evening.

In addition to visiting the city of Montreal, including Radio Canada, students will kayak in the Laurentides and visit Quebec City.

So far, we hear they are having a fantastic time.

You can read more about the trip on the Middle School Blog

A SPECIAL VISIT FOR THE PRESCHOOLERS

Thank you to fire fighters and SDFAS parents Aaron Brennan and Chris Wood as well as their little assistant Olivia for taking time out of their schedule to educate our preschoolers about fire safety.

They talked to the students about dialing 911 and what to do in case of a fire.

The students were thrilled and very impressed. Each student took home a helmet and badge sticker.

Thank you for your time and service!

LES 4ÈMES DEVOILENT LEUR PEINTURE MURALE
A BEAUTIFUL LEGACY LEFT BY OUR 8TH GRADE STUDENTS

8th graders worked on a mural project with local artist, Sonja

Donahue, who has worked with SDFAS previously on projects for the gala. The students painted a landscape of the La Jolla coast line, en plein air, utilizing a technique inspired by a Raoul Dufy painting. They unveiled their work last week and it will remain on the SDFAS campus.

EDITO

It is my pleasure to bring to you the final edition of the 2014-2015 school year ECHO. I hope you have enjoyed reading about the numerous and fun events we have had throughout the year.

It is a joy to work for SDFAS and encounter on a daily basis these talented and unique students from all over the world. I am constantly amazed by our students' abilities and creativity. I am proud to be a part of this community and to be able to offer my son access to this diverse place. The first class I taught at SDFAS is graduating 8th Grade next week and however sad I am to see them go, I have the utmost confidence that they will be successful. They are an outstanding class and I wish them the best of luck.

We hope you enjoy this end of the year and are able to join us for the shows and Kermesse.

I wish you enjoyable times with your family and friends over the summer and I send a fond farewell to the families and staff members who are leaving us. We hope you have enjoyed your time at SDFAS.

Thank you.

Communication Officer

Chers parents,

Merci.

JUMP ROPE FOR HEART - JUNE 17

On the morning of Wednesday, June 17, SDFAS will host a "Jump Rope for Heart" event from 8:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. for the elementary school and middle school.

This event builds awareness for healthy living in support of the American Heart Association.

We will have a brief introduction to the event, followed by fun

jump roping stations and friendly competitions.

The event will take place on the blacktop.

Students will also have the option to fundraise for "Jump Rope for Heart."

Lifesaver "duck" toys will be given as prizes.

Diesa Seidel spoke to the students about this event last week.

APRÈS-MIDI SPORTIVE

FIELD DAY

On the afternoon of June 17, we will have our first

FIELD DAY for elementary AND middle school.
Field Day will be hosted on the soccer field and will take place between 12:40 pm and 3:00 pm.

The event will be filled with fun competitions and games, such as 3-legged race, potato bag race, and tug-o-peace.

Parent volunteers will help run each station (8 stations, 1 for each grade level). Classes will compete against each other (i.e. 5A vs 5B, 6A vs 6B, etc.), and rotate stations together (every 5-10 minutes).

At the end of the Field Day, we will have a school wide water balloon toss competition.

We are still looking for extra parent volunteers... please let Angie Rosenkrans or Diesa Seidel know if you are interested in helping.

LA PÉRIODE DES DÉPARTS

TIME TO LEAVE SDFAS

Students and Families

Our international community is used to seeing many changes at the end of the school year when many families are moving, either back to France or to another city in the U.S. or in the world. These past months, the office has been busy sending recommendation letters to other schools. We are proud of the success of our students and always rejoice to see them transition easily to another school, based on their strong educational background gained at SDFAS. At the same time it's difficult to see them and their family leave our SDFAS community!

We will miss parents who have been so faithful to the school, some of them serving for many years on the Parents Association, on the gala committee, as room parents or volunteering for many school events. They will be missed, but will remain in our hearts!

We wish all the families leaving the school this year all the best for the future education of their children!

8th grade students

For the first time in its history, the school has an impressive number of students graduating in 8th grade: 22 compared to the seven students last year or the 15 graduates two years ago. Everyone is invited to their graduation ceremony, on Wednesday June 17, 5:30 p.m., in the auditorium.

Teachers

Two teachers are leaving the school, Pierre Chauvet, history and geography teacher in Middle School and Aude Morvan, French teacher in 4th grade. We thank them both for their good work and dedication during the past three years at SDFAS, and wish them the best for their new projects.

Assistants

Christine Coyne, preschool assistant is leaving the school after 3 years at SDFAS. Children and parents have enjoyed having her as an assistant, and she will be missed!

Finance Office

After five years at SDFAS, Debra Champagne has left the school to pursue her career independently. We thank her for her contribution to the growth and financial stability of SDFAS.

We welcome our new Director of Finance and Operations, Eglantine Proto. Eglantine joins the school after a career in both the non-profit and the private sector. She has a strong education and background in finance, is also a certified public accountant and is fluent in both English and French. Mrs. Proto will start working at the school next week.

BOX TOP NEWS

Although the BOX TOPS program was not advertised this year they were still being collected, as there is a container for them in the front office.  This coming Monday, June 15th, there will be the last BOX TOPS coupon pick up.  SO PLEASE make sure that any you have laying around your house are submitted in order for them to be processed this summer.  The money collected for the BOX TOPS this past year is being used in the school library for all grade levels to benefit!  Many thanks once again to the families who have participated in this project this past year and in the previous years.

The present BOX TOPS coordinator, Liette Campeau, will no longer be able to continue this project for the school, which has contributed $3,757.60 to the school since its inception. Hopefully another volunteer can take on this position that has always supported the school.  If you are interested in this fun volunteer post, please contact Liette Campeau:
liette.campeau@att.netThis position is not complicated and just requires to collect the BOX TOPS at school, sort them and send them to BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION and money, YES MONEY is sent to the school.  As a BOX TOPS COORDINATOR you can make it as fun or as simple as you wish!  It has been worth clipping for the school!! Thank you.

Liette Campeau, Parent Volunteer.
