Thanks to an amazing team spirit from students, parents, teachers and the organizers of the event, the Jog-a-thon has been a success!
Besides having all students from the 2-year-olds to the 8th graders run for a good cause, the event raised an impressive sum of $ 15,925, more than the $14,000 raised last year.
A big MERCI to all of you. We will keep you updated in the next Écho on how the funds will be allocated. Half of the funds raised will go to our recess and sports program.

L'HYGIÈNE DENTAIRE EN MATERNELLE

Because oral health is so crucial to our overall health, it's important that we teach our children how to take care of their teeth at an early age. At SDFAS, our nurse Genesis demonsrated the process of brushing and flossing and the importance of visiting the dentist to the preschool children.
She explained that when sugar sticks to one's teeth, tiny sugar bugs form and eat away at the teeth, leaving small brown holes called cavities. A child in each class used a set of large teeth and a huge tooth brush to demonstrate how to properly brush one's teeth: brushing far in the back, up in front, either side, and even the tongue with a circular brush stroke all while singing the Happy Birthday song two times. At the end of the session each child was given take a toothbrush to take home.

ATELIER THÉÂTRE AVEC LA JOLLA PLAYHOUSE
On Tuesday, February 17, a representative from the La Jolla Playhouse came to meet with students and prepare them for their upcoming performance at our school of "The Astronaut Farmworker." Students were given a bag of objects, and one student at a time pulled items from the bag and imagined what their importance might be to the play's main character. After developing their own impressions of the protagonist, they then went and sat on "the hot seat" to try out their talents at improv theater. The representative gave selected students scenes from the play to act out. The students had a wonderful time. The La Jolla Playhouse presented "The Astronaut Farmworker" to the elementary students yesterday in the school's auditorium.
