INTERNATIONAL WEEK: CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS

SEMAINE INTERNATIONALE: APPEL AUX VOLONTAIRES

This year, San Diego French-American School will organize International Week instead of the traditional Francophonie Week. During International Week, students will not only discover countries where French is spoken, but they will also be able to learn about many other countries of the world.

International week will kick off at the Forum on Thursday, March 19.

A committee has been set up to prepare the program of the week. One of the highlights will be an International Fair. We would like to invite parents of the school to present their country by holding a booth on a specific day during the week. The booths will be in the auditorium and would display pictures, maps, artifacts and food samples from the various countries presented.

Please contact Stéphanie in the office if you would like to volunteer. Simply give your name and the country you would like to present. The international committee will then send you details.

EUROFOOD

Don't forget you have the opportunity to purchase a bag of French specialty food/products from Eurofood Depot for delivery weekly or every other week. With a catalog including more than 1,000 items, the selection delivered on campus will be different every week. The basket will include French cheese (e.g. Pavé d'Affinois) , and/or meats & sausages (e.g. Morteau or duck/fig sausage), and/or candies/sweets (e.g. carambar, macaroons)

For additional details on the products, download the brochure by clicking

The Goat and Peace

Just a few notes on the mood of the season on campus:

Tomorrow Friday, February 13, we will celebrate friendship and love with Valentine's Day cards and messages.
Tomorrow is also the deadline for re-enrollment. I'd like to welcome all the students to come back next year! If you have any questions, you can contact the admissions office.
Next week, on Friday, February 20, we will celebrate The Asian New Year and all parents are invited to join and see the Lion Dance that will bring good luck to the year of the goat! According to Chinese astrology, the goat is a symbol of peace, harmonious co-existence and tranquility.
Let's all share a peaceful year at SDFAS and for many years to come!

Christian Jarlov,

Head of School

PK2 BUILDING 3D HOUSES

Mylène's and Claire's PK2 classes worked hard this past month to build beautiful houses in 3D. The houses are currently on display in the school library.

The project was based on the story of the "Three Little Pigs" that was read to the students in the past weeks. In the story, each pig builds his own house, which is what our students did. They first drew a plan of their house and built it with recyclable materials. They worked individually on their project and it all stemmed from their very own imagination. Finally, to finalize their project, the students named their houses such as "la maison fusée" (the rocket house) or "la chambre sur l'eau" (a room on the water).

L'ENSEIGNEMENT BILINGUE EN PRATIQUE

BILINGUAL EDUCATION IN ACTION

In second grade, students are currently studying animal life cycles. In this particular project, students are observing the evolution and metamorphosis of tadpoles and are learning about the different stages of the tadpole's life. The English (Emily Loomis) and French teachers (Murielle Brimaldi- Jensen and Nicolas Maragot) are working simultaneously on this project so that the students are able to express the higher level of science vocabulary in both languages.
Students are expected to observe, explain, document and collect data on a calendar.
