Our traditional Thanksgiving lunch is next Wednesday, and I invite all parents to join us on campus. Come and share the spirit of the season: friendship, gratitude and the need to come together in solidarity and understanding as the world becomes ever more complex and challenging! These are values we constantly try to encourage among our students: to recognize individual differences and respect them, to be open to new ideas, to be resilient and use teamwork to overcome difficulties.
I wish to thank parents who have already participated in the Food Drive this week. We only have a few days to go as SDFAS does its share to help children and families in need here in San Diego.
I am writing to you from Montreal, where this year, all Heads of French-American and Canadian schools are gathering to strengthen our North American network of schools. We are all seeing a very positive trend here. The interest for learning new languages, including French is ever apparent as these schools have more students every year, are expanding, and new schools are opening and joining the network. This is good news for us. As more parents see the benefits of bilingual education and exposure to different cultures, they are realizing how important it is to prepare their children to live in a complex, interconnected world.
Enjoy today's Écho for the latest news on campus!
Christian Jarlov,
Head of School
Chers parents,
Christian Jarlov,
Chef d'établissement

It's that magical time of year! San Diego French American School is hosting its annual Marché de Noël on Friday, December 5, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. This cherished event allows SDFAS to open its doors to friends, family, prospective students and the greater San Diego community.
This year's Marché de Noël (or Holiday Open Air Market and Fair) will showcase vendors from all over San Diego county. From food to holiday decorations to beauty supplies; it is a great place to start your holiday shopping or treat yourself to something sweet or savory.
IMPORTANT DATES AND DOCUMENTS FOR VENDORS
The registration deadline to be a vendor at our Marché de Noël is noon on Friday, November 21st. The rental of a booth is free for school parents.
Middle Schoolers are encouraged to get involved.

PARENT VOLUNTEERS
We need a lot of volunteers to make this event a fun and successful one! We will need supervisors for the bouncy house, craft table helpers, information booth representatives and, of course, supreme decorators.
Please contact the PA at SDFASMarchedeNoel2014@gmail.com with the subject line: VOLUNTEER.
Thank you in advance for getting involved,

Concours national d'orthographe Scripps: résultats
Congratulations to all the students who chose to participate in this year's spelling bee. We were overwhelmingly impressed with our students' abilities, and are very proud of them. The 8th grade competition nearly expired the entire list of words, and as a result, a tie was declared between Hannah Quirk and Sebastian Hayden for their immensely impressive performances! Mael Chauvet took third place in the 8th grade competition! In 7th grade, Emma Lhuillier took first place, Gabriel Sorbi took second, and Adeline Liou took 3rd. The 6th grade competition saw Angeline Arambulo take first place, Alex Caracalla take second place, and Sebastien Tallet take third. Great job to all our participants!

Une sortie au musée pour les CE1
Both second grade classes took a trip to the San Diego Museum of Art for a special guided tour in French. A week prior to the visit, a museum volunteer came to campus to introduce the students to their visit.
During the hour long museum visit, students had the opportunity to see ten pieces from a variety of famous artists (Vincent Van Gogh, Robert Delaunay, Frida Kahlo, Jackson Pollock...). The students appreciated the diversity of the works they saw, the new vocabulary learned, and the discovery of the most important artistic movements of the end of the 19th century and the 20th century.
Many of the other museum visitors stopped to observe this peculiar group of little students passionately listening to their French guide.
