Time to say goodbye to preschool and hello to Elementary School!
Aurevoir la maternelle, et Bonjour l'élémentaire

Our 33 kindergartners are excited to graduate on June 17 and move on to elementary school next September, after a well-deserved summer break.
 Greetings! ,

It is a short holiday week that is bringing us into the month of June and the final three weeks of the school year. Students are eagerly counting the days until the summer break, while enthusiastically practicing their dance moves for the end of the year show.  It is for many, the most enjoyable time of the year filled with bittersweet emotions. There is so much to look forward to:  the excitement of the end of the year performances and graduations, Kermesse, and the enjoyable days of summer vacation.  At the same time, there is so much to look back on: friends and teachers who will be missed throughout the summer months, memorable moments and special achievements made throughout the year. With this in mind, I am wishing you a wonderful end to the school year and enjoyable times with your family and friends over the summer.

It has been my pleasure, as the editor of the ÉCHO, to bring to you our school news throughout the year. I would kindly welcome your feedback on this publication, specifically what you have enjoyed, what you are interested in reading about, the frequency of the publication and what you think may be improved. Please email any comments to esims@sdfrenchschool.org. It is only with your help that we can improve this communication and make it as effective and informative as possible.

Thank you for all your support.

Communications Officer

SAT10 Exams this week for the 7th and 8th graders.

The 7th and 8th graders have been taking the SAT 10 exams this week. The English exams were administered on Tuesday, May 27, and the Math exams were today, Thursday, May 29.

These exams are not affiliated with the High School SAT exams, so no need to worry that they were too hard for your child. They are the standardized tests offered by Pearson which we already use at other levels of the school.

These exams replace the ERB's, and will be given at a standard 7th and 8th grade level.

I also hope that you parents enjoyed going out during these evenings.

Please let me know if you have any comments about it and if you would like to have this activity again next year.

Kangourou des maths: Another succesful year for our students

Every year, the 3rd to 8th grade students participate in an international math contest, "Kangourou des maths." They have to solve up to 24 very challenging problems in French.

This week we started receiving the results, and many of our students have done extremely well, like Nadia Bitar, 4th grade, who ranked #32 out of 27,215 4th grade students from France and other international schools worldwide. A brilliant score!

Results and prizes will be given to the students in the next few days.

Junior Olympics

Each year SDFAS is invited to participate in the Kiwanis
Junior Olympics, hosted at La Jolla High School. The invitational event brings together 9 schools in La Jolla, and is open to students between the ages of 5 and 12.

This year SDFAS had 58 students competing in the 200 meter, 100 meter, 50 meter, obstacle course, long jump, or softball throw! A very special SHOUT OUT to our boys 4 x 100 relay team (Nicola Redon, Kael Magniet, Paul Madany, Henry Madany) who placed THIRD and was awarded the bronze medal. This was the first year SDFAS placed in a relay event!
Congratulations to all of our young athletes who participated and even brought home the gold, silver, and bronze! Bravo!
