A special day.

In a few weeks, SDFAS will open its doors to welcome grandparents and special friends on campus. This event is a wonderful opportunity for students to share their school life with their special guests. This year we are inviting our visitors to share their favorite book when they were young. Each of our most memorable childhood stories enlighten who we are; they have the power to carry us back to some beliefs or values that are important and instructive in our lives. So, what about you? What are your favorite childhood books and stories?

Grandparents and Special Friends Day

Grandparents and Special Friends Day will take place Wednesday October 16. The event will start at 9 a.m. in the auditorium with coffee/pastries and a short presentation/video. Our special guests will go to the classrooms around 9:20 a.m. for about 40 minutes. Again, the theme this year is "My Favorite Childhood Book or Story". Please remind grandparents to bring a book so that they can read a passage from it and to inform the class teacher that they will attend the event.

For those who cannot be with us and who wish to participate, you may ask them to send a short note.

Thank you.

Mini-Forum - Amenez un ami
Mini-Forum - Bring a Friend

The first pre-Elementary "mini forum" will be Wednesday, October 9th at 8:45 a.m., in the auditorium. Performances will be by the two PK1 classes and all three kindergarten classes.

What is Mini Forum?

The Mini-Forum is a short presentation of songs, dances and/or videos of and by the students. The goal is to allow students to become comfortable on stage and in front of an audience. Each time, only a few classes are represented, but throughout the year, all pre-elementary classes will have their turn at performing.

On this occasion, the Admission Office invites all parents to "bring a friend" who may be interested in seeing your child perform and in visiting our school. We will be able to schedule appointments for individual tours and we will also invite your friends to our next open house, set for November 13. If you plan to bring a friend, please send us an email: [email protected].

Thank you!

Library News: Scholastic Flyers

ScholasticFlyer.Echo.092613Each month, your child will bring home two Scholastic flyers, one with books in English, and one with books in French.

Here is the procedure to order from these flyers:

Scholastic USA:

sign up at http://www.scholastic.com/bookclubs and enter the one-time Class Activation Code GRR7D. Once you are registered, you can sign in every month to place your orders. ORDER BY THE 20th OF THE MONTH.

You can still fill out the paper form and return it with a check, but it's not as convenient, and ordering online gives you coupons and extra bonus points for the school. No cash please.

Scholastic Canada: fill out the form at the back of the flyer and write a check for the amount in US $ (prices in the last column). ORDER BY THE 15th OF THE MONTH. No cash please.

Every order you make benefits your children twice: they will enjoy receiving a book of their own, and the school will get free new books to be enjoyed in the library.

Thank you!

Library Books Purchased with Box Tops Funds

Parents are welcome to come to the school library to peruse the latest new collection of books by Gallimard-Jeunesse during parent time on Thursday mornings.  These books were made possible by our BOX TOPS earnings!  It is a great book collection focusing on various countries and history and is an enjoyable and relaxing read!  Thus, I would like to personally thanks the many families who contributed to collecting the BOX TOPS coupons, on behalf of the school library for these news books for the students.  AND please keep clipping your BOX TOPS and bring them to school. There is a deposit box in the front office and on the pre-elementary table, along with boxes in the elementary classes.  You can also help collect e-BOX TOPS by going to the BOX TOPS 4 Education website and earn chances to win coupons and much more.
