November 2015

Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on what we're grateful for. But sometimes saying "thanks" at dinner feels forced. We have four exercises to help get the genuine gratitude flowing.

But late November isn't the only time we should practice gratitude. New research shows that being grateful can help couples through hard timesenhances activity in certain parts of our brains; and makes our kids happier, more generous, and more connected!

For more practical tips on practicing gratitude, check out our Greater Good in Action site.

The Science of Gratitude
Academy Award-winning actress and "The Science of Gratitude" narrator Susan Sarandon.
Tune in over the next few weeks to your local public radio station for The Science of Gratitude--a GGSC radio special narrated by actress Susan Sarandon that explores the far-reaching power of giving thanks.

Check PRI's online program guide to learn when The Science of Gratitude will be airing on your local public radio station!
The Power of Friendship
A new study suggests that we need a lot of social contact when we're younger--but as we age, we need to focus on emotional closeness through quality friendships.

And new data culled from our "Science of Happiness" course confirm that if you want to be happier, you should focus on the quality of your relationships.
Be True to Your School
The GGSC and GreatSchools are partnering to increase the practice of gratitude by encouraging families to share expressions of thanks for their school.

Is there someone--a teacher, school leader, or other individual--who makes your child's school great? Say thanks at GreatSchools before December 11 and be entered to win $1,000 for your school (and $250 for yourself)!
