May 2014

Thinking of giving Mom a flower arrangement or a trip to the spa this Mother's Day?

Think again. New research suggests that just saying "thanks" may be the best gift for everyone.

"I'll put in my bid for a thank you this Mother's Day, in whatever form," writes Jill Suttie in "Should Motherhood Be a Thankless Job?" Indeed, "No flowers or Hallmark card would do as much for me as the sense of knowing that my kids recognize the efforts I put in to care for them and that they feel grateful I'm their mom."

Also on Greater Good:
How to Die Well

Death can bring out our inherent goodness -- our capacity to transcend, love, and grow, according to Dr. Charles Garfield.

Based on his decades of experience helping patients and their families through serious illness and the transition of dying, Garfield outlines the seven keys to a good death.
