Compassion & Business Conference

Hosted by the Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education (CCARE)

 

Mindful BusinessThis one-day conference aims to foster a dialog around cutting-edge research and best practices on compassion and business. It will feature talks by leading research experts in the field as well as business leaders who have successfully implemented compassion-based programs in their organizations. 

 

Speakers include Elizabeth Dunn of the University of British Columbia; Adam Grant of The Wharton School; Kristin Neff of the University of Texas, Austin; Larry Sonsini, Chairman of Wilson, Sonsini, Goodrich & Rosati; Chip Conley, CEO of Hotels Joie De Vivre; and Scott Kriens, CEO of Juniper Networks.

Educators: More Time to Apply for the First-Ever Greater Good Summer Institute 

Great news for educators: We've pushed back the deadline for applications to 

our inaugural Greater Good Summer Institute for Educators--you now have until March 31 to apply! Partial scholarships available.   

 

When: June 28-July 3, 2013

Where: UC Berkeley's Clark Kerr Campus

Over six exciting days, experts on compassion, empathy, and mindfulness will equip teachers and administrators with tools to promote social-emotional learning in their schools.

 

Attendees will gain research-based skills and insights to protect themselves from burnout and enhance the social and emotional well-being of their students. They'll also learn scientific evidence to help them make the case for the importance of social-emotional learning back at their schools.

 
Speakers include: Rick Hansonneuropsychologist and best-selling author of Buddha's Brain; Kristin Neff, author of Self-CompassionMarc Brackett, founder of the RULER Approach to Social and Emotional Learning; and Megan Cowan, co-founder and executive director of Mindful Schools.

Meet Our Fellows: Trinh Tran
This month, meet Hornaday Graduate Fellow Trinh Tran. Trinh is a Ph.D. candidate in sociology at UC Berkeley.

 

As a Hornaday Fellow, Trinh's research compares the social lives of students who attend magnet vs. neighborhood high schools, and seeks to understand the extent to which students are able to form ties with other students and with teachers outside of their neighborhood boundaries.
