February 2013

Greetings!

Are today's young adults as entitled and narcissistic as critics claim?

In "What's Good about Generation Y?" sociologist Karen Foster challenges those stereotypes--and draws on new research to highlight the hopeful, egalitarian, and compassionate qualities of Generation Y.

And in "What Gen Y Needs from Parents (and Why You Should Give it to Them)," developmental psychologist (and mom) Diana Divecha argues that, thanks to a bad economy, parental support is becoming normal and even necessary.

But what about when they leave the nest--doesn't Gen Y's sense of entitlement make them skip from job to job? In "Can Gen Y Fix our Schools?Vicki Zakrzewski acknowledges that Gen Y teachers are leaving the profession in droves. But reviewing the research, Vicki argues that meeting the needs of young teachers would make schools better, not worse.
