December 2012

Greetings!

Happy holidays! This past month, I explored how awe-inspiring music, art, nature, and people can help students feel more connected to something larger than themselves--a timely subject for this season of unity and togetherness.

You might also enjoy another piece for the holidays: how teachers can help their students give more meaningful gifts.

And if you want to get into the holiday spirit, please read on to learn how you can support the Greater Good Science Center by joining or renewing as a member. With a new or increased gift, you can help a teacher attend our new Summer Institute!

Wishing you a holiday season filled with joy and peace.

Warmest regards,

Vicki Zakrzewski, Ph.D.
Education Director, Greater Good Science Center

Support Greater Good Education!

As 2012 comes to a close, I

Gratitude in Schools

am profoundly grateful to be able to share the science of social and emotional well-being with so many educators.

Together, we are helping to build schools where students, teachers, and administrators can thrive. This work is made possible by individual supporters like you.

This year, I hope you will consider supporting the Greater Good Science Center's Education Program. Here are two ways you can help:

(1) Become a member of the Greater Good Science Center, or renew your membership. Members get an array of great benefits, as well as the happiness of knowing they support the Greater Good community. Memberships are tax-deductible! If you'd like your contribution to go specifically toward the Greater Good Education program, type "Education" in the promo code box in the membership form.

(2) Help send a teacher to the Greater Good Summer Institute for Educators. Through a generous matching grant from the Heart of Compassion Fund of the Silicon Valley Foundation, your membership can be matched dollar-for-dollar!

If you're a brand-new member, simply enter "Summer Institute" in the promo code box, and your entire membership will be matched. If you're already a member, renew at a higher membership level and the increased portion of your donation will be matched. See below for more details about our summer institute.

Many, many thanks! I hope that your gift, along with this newsletter, brings you great joy now and in the coming year.

Greater Good Summer Institute for Educators

We're excited to announce that registration is now open for the first annual Greater Good Summer Institute for Educators!

When: June 28-July 3, 2013
Where: UC Berkeley's Clark Kerr Campus

Over five exciting days, experts on compassion, empathy, and mindfulness will equip teachers and administrators with tools to promote social-emotional learning in their schools.

Attendees will gain research-based skills and insights that will protect them from burnout and enhance the social and emotional well-being of their students. In the process, they'll learn scientific evidence to help them make the case for the importance of social-emotional learning back at their schools.
