Dear Friends,

As I write this, Rosh Hashanah has just passed, and Yom Kippur is upon us. It's a time of year for reflection, self-evaluation, and forgiveness of both things we may have done to others and our own internal mistakes. It is customary in my family for each of us to reach out to our parents and siblings and ask for forgiveness, not for anything specific, but for anything we may have done that harmed or offended the other during the past year. It's a wonderful tradition, and one that I find incredibly beneficial.

In that vein, I want to take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank our community partners - synagogue leaders, Rabbis, board members, congregants, as well as all of our HudsonJewish board members, volunteers, and participants. Without you we would not have been able to grow HudsonJewish from a dream by our founder Adam Weiss, to the well respected and highly involved grassroots communal organization that it is today. We greatly appreciate everyone's support and participation, and look forward to working with all of you in the upcoming year. Please make note that HudsonJewish is proud to accept an honor at Cong. B'nai Jacob at a special event to be held on Sunday, November 23rd from 1pm-3pm during their Lox 'N Learning program. We invite all of you to come out and join us, as our accomplishments are yours and we would love to share this occasion with you.

Finally, please take advantage of the generous complimentary tickets being provided for Yom Kippur by many of our local synagogues, including Cong. B'nai Jacob of J. City, Temple Israel Community Center/Cong. Heichal Yisrael, United Synagogue of Hoboken (some free of charge services), Temple Beth-El of J. City, Cong. Mt. Sinai of J. City, Temple Beth Am of Bayonne, Temple Emanu-el of Bayonne, Chabad of Hoboken, etc. Please do not miss the opportunity to come and spend some quiet time reflecting and praying at any of these or other synagogues, where we promise that you will be warmly welcomed.

On behalf of myself and the entire HudsonJewish Board, wishing each and every one of you a G'mar Chatimah Tovah!

Warmly,

 Michelle Levine

 CHABAD OF HOBOKEN CENTER DEDICATION

Written By Adam Weiss

Chabad Rabbi Moshe Schapiro, Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer, and her husband Stan Grossbard participate in the completion of the new Torah scroll

Chabad Rabbi Moshe Schapiro, Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer, and her husband Stan Grossbard participate in the completion of the new Torah scroll.

On Sunday, September 14, for the first time in over 50 years, the Hudson County Jewish community marked the establishment of a new house of worship: the dedication of the new Weisfield Family Chabad Jewish Center of Hoboken. Located at 80 Park Avenue (entrance on Newark Stret), Hoboken's Chabad Center is the culmination of over a decade of work by Rabbi Moshe Schapiro and his wife Shaindel, whose tireless outreach activities make them familiar figures both in the local Jewish community and the broader Hoboken community at large.

Dedication ceremonies included the completion of a new Torah scroll by sofer (scribe) Rabbi Shaul Yitzchak, as well as the affixing of a mezuzah to the building entrance. A procession up Newark Street to Washington Street and back to the Chabad Center for an outdoor luncheon concluded the festivities.

BAYONNE JEWISH BUSINESS LEADERS LUNCHEON WITH MAYOR JAMES DAVIS

Bayonne Jewish Business Leaders host luncheon with Mayor James Davis

Recently, a first time event took place in Bayonne, the meeting of Jewish business leaders with the newly appointed Bayonne Mayor, Hon. James Davis. The luncheon meeting was hosted by Royal Wine Corp., or as they are more widely known KEDEM, and was arranged by Hatzoloh of Union City. The luncheon was attended by, among others, representatives of KEDEM, Star Snacks, Gel Spice, Imperial Paper, and AP&G Co. (which is moving to Bayonne).

This event marks what the Jewish business leaders hope will be the start of an ongoing professional relationship with Mayor Davis and the officials at City Hall, and hopefully bring more Jewish business to Bayonne and Hudson County. If you would like further information regarding this meeting, please contact David Rosenberg at David@mesivtasanz.com

Family Foundations and Donations Sought for PJ Library Program

HudsonJewish in partnership with United Synagogue of Hoboken, and Temple Beth-El of Jersey City is seeking information/introductions to Family Foundations and/or individuals who have a special interest in supporting Jewish education, literacy, and children's programs in Hudson County, to help fund the PJ Library program. Currently this program provides free books to over 300 children in our area, with more spots open for additional children. We now distribute a PJ Library monthly e-newsletter for participating and interested families. While we have made significant progress in growing this program in our area, the program does not charge the participating families and relies on outside donations and funding to pay the nominal cost per child for the books to be distributed. Partial funding is also sponsoredc by the UJA of Hoboken, Harold Grinspoon Foundation, and the Violet Zall Hordes Foundation, but more funds are needed. For further information on this worthwhile program, please visit their website at www.PJLibrary.org . If you or anyone you know is interested in making a contribution and sponsoring this wonderful and important project, please contact Info@HudsonJewish.org
