Dear Friends,

Well, it's that time of year again - when the lazy hot days of summer melt away into the crisp fall weather, bringing with them the all-important High Holidays. Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur are a wonderful opportunity to spend some time at any of our multitude of synagogues in Hudson County. You will meet wonderful leadership, engaged members, and excited families who will welcome you in to their communities whether you are a member or not. In fact, many of our Hudson County synagogues offer complimentary tickets for High Holiday services including Cong. B'nai Jacob of J. City, Temple Beth El of No. Bergen/Temple Israel Community Center/Cong. Heichal Yisrael, United Synagogue of Hoboken (some free of charge services), Temple Beth-El of J. City, Cong. Mt. Sinai of J. City, Temple Beth Am of Bayonne, Temple Emanu-el of Bayonne, as well as others. For newcomers to the area who have lived here for two years or less, check out EZ Key High Holiday Ticket Program at www.jfnnj.org/holidaytickets . Be sure to read the Events section of the newsletter for further information about the different services offered and details about obtaining tickets. There are plenty of services and programs geared towards families, children, those who are experienced synagogue-goers and those that are not. If you are not yet affiliated with a synagogue, use this opportunity to attend services and find the place that feels "just right" for you and/or your family. Any of our local Rabbis and/or leaders will be happy to speak with you in advance to answer questions about services, rituals, and customs, so don't hesitate to reach out to them - their numbers may be found on our website at www.HudsonJewish.org .

For families with young children, a great way to start the High Holiday season is to attend the PJ Library Pre High Holiday Buzzzz Off at the Liberty Science Center on September 7 (see the article below for details and registration information).

Finally, don't miss the opportunity to come out and join us at the upcoming Hoboken Street Fair on September 28th from 11am-6pm (Washington Street from 1st through 7th Streets, Hoboken). As always, HudsonJewish along with various other Jewish organizations will host booths, and we invite you to stop by, schmooze, kibbitz, and even grab a nosh! As always, we look forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones!

On behalf of myself and the entire HudsonJewish Board of Directors, wishing you and your families a Sweet and Happy New Year!

Warmly,

Michelle Levine, Chairperson
Hudson Jewish Community Forum, A New Jersey Nonprofit Corporation having 501(c)(3) status

Family Foundations and Donations Sought for PJ Library Program

HudsonJewish in partnership with United Synagogue of Hoboken, and Temple Beth-El of Jersey City is seeking information/introductions to Family Foundations and/or individuals who have a special interest in supporting Jewish education, literacy, and children's programs in Hudson County, to help fund the PJ Library program. Currently this program provides free books to over 300 children in our area, with more spots open for additional children. We now distribute a PJ Library monthly e-newsletter for participating and interested families. While we have made significant progress in growing this program in our area, the program does not charge the participating families and relies on outside donations and funding to pay the nominal cost per child for the books to be distributed. Partial funding is also sponsoredc by the UJA of Hoboken, Harold Grinspoon Foundation, and the Violet Zall Hordes Foundation, but more funds are needed. For further information on this worthwhile program, please visit their website at www.PJLibrary.org . If you or anyone you know is interested in making a contribution and sponsoring this wonderful and important project, please contact Info@HudsonJewish.org
