Dear Friends,
As we all climb out from pounds of matzah, cups of wine, and spoonfuls of charoset, it is time to turn our attention to the next series of important events that are upcoming. On April 27th-28th, we will be observing Holocaust Remembrance Day (Yom HaShoah), a critical time to remember the atrocities that Jews and many others suffered at the hands of the Nazis. This is a time to make sure that we NEVER forget what happened, to ensure that it never happens again. Please make sure to attend one of the community-wide programs, either at Cong. B'nai Jacob on Sunday, April 27th, or at Bayonne City Hall on Monday, April 28th (see our calendar for full listings of these events). Both of these programs will make you remember, think, cry, and hopefully inspire you to make your own difference in working towards eliminating hatred amongst people of all nationalities, religions, and orientations.
Then, on Sunday May 4th, join HudsonJewish and many of our fellow Jewish organizations at the semi-annual Hoboken Arts & Music Festival. Be sure to stop by our booth, to meet our volunteers, find out what's new around town, and just schmooze! Other organizations that will have booths as well are; United Synagogue of Hoboken, Temple Emanu-El of Bayonne, and Temple Beth-El of J. City. Enjoy the outdoor weather, live music, delicious food, crafts, and a special children's area with activities. Admission is free, and the event takes place rain or shine. We look forward to meeting new friends and catching up with old ones!
Finally, it's time for the delightful holiday of Shavuot on the evening of June 3rd through nightfall on June 5th. It's customary to decorate homes and synagogues with flowers and boughs, hear the reading of the Ten Commandments in synagogue, and eat a festive holiday meal with dairy and milk-based items (think blintzes, cheese noodle kugel, and of course yummy cheesecake). Please remember those less fortunate than us on this holiday, and think about making a donation of packaged food to your local food pantry at this time of year.
As always, if we can be of assistance or if you have an idea for a program or event, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at Info@HudsonJewish.org .
Wishing all of you a very Happy Shavuot!
Warmly,
Michelle Levine, Chairperson Hudson Jewish Community Forum, A New Jersey Nonprofit Corporation having 501(c)(3) status

Family Foundations and Donations Sought for PJ Library Program |
| |
HudsonJewish in partnership with United Synagogue of Hoboken, and Temple Beth-El of Jersey City is seeking information/introductions to Family Foundations and/or individuals who have a special interest in supporting Jewish education, literacy, and children's programs in Hudson County, to help fund the PJ Library program. Currently this program provides free books to over 210 children in our area, with a waiting list pending. We now distribute a PJ Library monthly e-newsletter for participating and interested families. While we have made significant progress in growing this program in our area, the program does not charge the participating families and relies on outside donations and funding to pay the nominal cost per child for the books to be distributed. Partial funding is also sponsoredc by the UJA of Hoboken, but more funds are needed. For further information on this worthwhile program, please visit their website at www.PJLibrary.org . If you or anyone you know is interested in making a contribution and sponsoring this wonderful and important project, please contact Michelle@HudsonJewish.org . |
