Dear Friends,

It appears to finally be Summer, and I for one am ecstatic with the warm weather, sunshine, and flowers blooming. It was a long time in coming (and I still hesitate each morning in case there is an early June snowstorm!), but it's finally here. Now of course, we are all complaining about the 90+ degree weather! Nevertheless, this is the time of year when people love to come out to events, both indoor and outdoor, and join together with the rest of our community to meet, have fun, and socialize.

There are many events coming up in the month of June that will help you do just that, including a Flea Market (Temple Beth-El of J. City), Lox 'N Learning (Cong. B'nai Jacob), Shabbat in the Park (United Synagogue of Hoboken), and a Retirement Dinner honoring Rabbi Gordon Gladstone after 28 years of service to Temple Beth Am. Whatever your interests or age, these events are open to members and non-members alike, and are a great opportunity to visit and get acquainted with one of our Hudson County synagogues or just attend a single program.

Finally, it was great to meet so many of you at the recent Hoboken Arts Festival on May 5th. We were able to speak with many people, both long-time residents and newcomers. Hearing your ideas, listening to what you would like to see the community offer, and of course meeting all of the children and signing them up for the free PJ Library Jewish book program was wonderful. The weather was gorgeous, and we all had a great time, so thank you for stopping by and visiting with us. If you know of anyone who is not yet signed up for the free monthly HudsonJewish e-newsletter, please encourage them to do so by simply going to www.HudsonJewish.org and following the simple Sign-up instructions. This is the best way to find out all about everything Jewish in our community (and beyond) for families, singles, couples, seniors, and everyone else - all in one place.

As always, if you have any questions, ideas, or wish to volunteer with HudsonJewish, please don't hesitate to reach out to us at Info@HudsonJewish.org .

Warmly,

Michelle Levine, Chairperson

HATZOLAH OF UNION CITY & GREATER NORTH JERSEY

When faced with a medical emergency, whom do you call? Hatzolah of Union City & Greater North Jersey needs no introduction. Since it's inception in 2001 in northern New Jersey, Hatzolah, the Jewish volunteer squad, has been there for the Jewish community and for all of its neighbors, in times of need. Their professional all-volunteer staff, are highly trained to respond quickly and efficiently to any medical emergency. Their speedy response, state of the art equipment, and efficient first aid treatment, have saved lives and vastly improved the odds of recovery for patients and victims. Hatzolah's modern ambulance allows them to transport patients immediately to appropriate hospitals. Anyone who has ever waited for a regular ambulance to arrive knows what a crucial difference every second makes, hence the need for Hatzolah and its efficient team.

Additionally, Hatzolah has been called upon by local first responders to help in many emergency situations such as search and rescue operations, evacuations, fires and floods. Over the years, they have gained a reputation of responding quickly, compassionately, and capably to bring urgent care to the community and beyond. They were there on 9/11 (being closest to Ground Zero on the Jersey side) administrating help to the thousands of injured, stranded, and traumatized victims. More recently, during Hurricane Sandy, they were instrumental in the orderly evacuations of patients from Hoboken University Medical Center.

All this is done solely by volunteers working professionally, compassionately, and rapidly to save lives. Hatzolah's quality of care however, is only as good as its equipment. They constantly need to replenish, update, and maintain its ambulances, supplies, and life-saving equipment. Now they are turning to you for help. Hatzolah is always there for you. Be there for them. They are in desperate need of funds. Please respond with a generous donation to help maintain the standard of care you have come to expect. To donate please visit our website at hatzolahuc.com, or mail in your contribution to Hatzolah of Union City 317 34 St. Union City NJ 07087. For more information please call 201-364-4254. Please help them help you - the life they save may be yours!

Family Foundations and Donations Sought for PJ Library Program

HudsonJewish in partnership with United Synagogue of Hoboken, and Temple Beth-El of Jersey City is seeking information/introductions to Family Foundations and/or individuals who have a special interest in supporting Jewish education, literacy, and children's programs in Hudson County, to help fund the PJ Library program. Currently this program provides free books to over 210 children in our area, with a waiting list pending. We now distribute a PJ Library monthly e-newsletter for participating and interested families. While we have made significant progress in growing this program in our area, the program does not charge the participating families and relies on outside donations and funding to pay the nominal cost per child for the books to be distributed. Partial funding is also sponsoredc by the UJA of Hoboken, but more funds are needed. For further information on this worthwhile program, please visit their website at www.PJLibrary.org . If you or anyone you know is interested in making a contribution and sponsoring this wonderful and important project, please contact Raylie@HudsonJewish.org .
