Dear Friends,

I hope that this finds you and your families enjoying a happy and joyful Passover holiday. I for one start out every Passover loving the plethora of matzah-laden delicacies (think matzah brei, matzah with butter, matzah meal cake, chocolate covered matzah, etc.), and then by about day three I am sick of matzah as though it's been months without any leavened foods. This of course does not take away the joy of the traditional Passover Seders, with the children asking the Mah Nishtanah (Four Questions), the savory Charoset, and my favorite part - acting out the ten plagues with enthusiasm and a bit of humor. All over the County synagogues held community Seders, with both traditional and updated songs, customs, and activities. All welcomed both current members and new residents to the community table, and it was truly a joyous and uplifting way to celebrate the holiday.

On another more somber note, Yom Hashoah - Holocaust Observance Day is coming up in the next week. There are numerous programs around Hudson County, including those held by the UJA of Bayonne in Bayonne City Hall, a joint tri-synagogue memorial program by Cong. B'nai Jacob, Temple Beth-El of J. City, and United Synagogue of Hoboken, and a shared program by Temple Beth El of No. Bergen and Temple Israel of Cliffside Park. These important and moving programs are critical for all of us to attend, so that we may never forget those lost, and honor those who exhibited bravery and courage during the Holocaust. It is moving to note that many of the synagogues have come together to hold joint programs, and hopefully this trend will continue as it is another way to strengthen our local Jewish community.

On a final note, the next Hoboken Arts Festival is upcoming on May 5th from 11am-6pm along Washington Street in Hoboken. As we have done for many years now, HudsonJewish will host a booth at the Festival, and we invite all of you to stop by, meet our volunteers and Board Members, and find out about everything Jewish that is going on in Hudson County.

Wishing you all a sunny and enjoyable Spring season. As always, if you have any questions, ideas, or wish to volunteer with HudsonJewish, please don't hesitate to reach out to us at Info@HudsonJewish.org .

Warmly,

Family Foundations and Donations Sought for PJ Library Program

HudsonJewish in partnership with United Synagogue of Hoboken, and Temple Beth-El of Jersey City is seeking information/introductions to Family Foundations and/or individuals who have a special interest in supporting Jewish education, literacy, and children's programs in Hudson County, to help fund the PJ Library program. Currently this program provides free books to over 210 children in our area, with a waiting list pending. We now distribute a PJ Library monthly e-newsletter for participating and interested families. While we have made significant progress in growing this program in our area, the program does not charge the participating families and relies on outside donations and funding to pay the nominal cost per child for the books to be distributed. Partial funding is also sponsoredc by the UJA of Hoboken, but more funds are needed. For further information on this worthwhile program, please visit their website at www.PJLibrary.org . If you or anyone you know is interested in making a contribution and sponsoring this wonderful and important project, please contact Raylie@HudsonJewish.org .
