Dear Friends,

I am writing to you shortly after myself and my family have celebrated the wonderful holiday of Purim at one of our local synagogues. We have developed a custom of attending different synagogues in Hudson County for various holidays and events, and always receive a warm welcome and have a great time. This holiday was no different, as we celebrated at Cong. B'nai Jacob in Jersey City. The evening included singing, entertainment, children's activities, megillah reading, delicious treats, and of course a host of fabulous costumes. This is just an example of the type of events and programs that are ongoing in our community for adults and children alike.

Coming up later this month, we will be celebrating Passover, and many of the synagogues will hold communal Seders. Be sure to check our online calendar at www.HudsonJewish.org as well as this month's Events Listing for information on these events. An important program in preparation for Passover is CareLink on Sunday, March 17 (see listing below), where various Jewish organizations join together to pack and deliver meals to homebound Jewish residents in Hudson County. Joining in this program is a great way to lead into the Passover holiday, and this is a very rewarding volunteer opportunity for adults and older children alike. Additionally, in April our community will hold a joint Yom Hashoah observance event at Cong. B'nai Jacob. This year three separate synagogues, B'nai Jacob, Temple Beth-El of J. City, and USH, will come together for one powerful program that is open to the entire community. It is a somber event, but the joint program should remind us all that when Jews work together we can accomplish anything.

Finally, it is not too early to start thinking about your summer plans. We have lots of offerings in our local community and beyond, so please be sure to check out our Children's Programs & Activities sections for local camps and programs. A special "thank you" to this month's newsletter sponsor, Camp Riverbend, who is now providing transportation for children from Hudson County.

I look forward to seeing you at various community events or just around town. If you have any questions, ideas, or wish to volunteer with HudsonJewish, please be sure to contact us at Info@HudsonJewish.org .

Warmly,

Michelle Levine, Chairperson

Family Foundations and Donations Sought for PJ Library Program

HudsonJewish in partnership with United Synagogue of Hoboken, and Temple Beth-El of Jersey City is seeking information/introductions to Family Foundations and/or individuals who have a special interest in supporting Jewish education, literacy, and children's programs in Hudson County, to help fund the PJ Library program. Currently this program provides free books to over 210 children in our area, with a waiting list pending. We now distribute a PJ Library monthly e-newsletter for participating and interested families. While we have made significant progress in growing this program in our area, the program does not charge the participating families and relies on outside donations and funding to pay the nominal cost per child for the books to be distributed. Partial funding is also sponsoredc by the UJA of Hoboken, but more funds are needed. For further information on this worthwhile program, please visit their website at www.PJLibrary.org . If you or anyone you know is interested in making a contribution and sponsoring this wonderful and important project, please contact Raylie@HudsonJewish.org .
