Greetings!,

Happy New Year! As we welcome 2014, we reflect on the many great things that ACE has accomplished in 2013 with the support of donors and volunteers like you. From planting trees and conducting energy assessments for local homeowners, to picking up trash and educating students (and their parents), the impact of our joint efforts ripple throughout the community. Thank you for being part of a very special group of people who support this vital work.

As you know, our work is far from done. As you consider the impact you'd like to have in 2014, we ask you to make a New Year's resolution to volunteer (or volunteer again) with ACE.

Whether you are interested in improving energy efficiency, conserving water, increasing the tree canopy, engaging the community through environmental education, or providing administrative support, there are numerous ways for you to get involved. Here are just a few examples:

  • Assist the Arlington Energy Masters
Working in partnership with Arlington Thrive and Virginia Cooperative Extension, our volunteers have helped 275 families improve the comfort and energy efficiency of their homes. As an energy volunteer, you can support the Energy Masters volunteers on Saturday work days, starting on January 11 and continuing once a month through June. We are also happy to add you to the list to be notified when the volunteer application is available for the next training for the award-winning Arlington Energy Masters program in September 2014.
  • Talk up the Tree Canopy Fund
Working with volunteer neighborhood leaders, ACE has facilitated the planting of more than 1,200 trees in yards and on condo association properties where the canopy has been drastically impacted by intense development. As a volunteer you can help to spread the word about this program in your neighborhood. The Tree Canopy Fund provides free trees on private property and applications will be due in June.
  • Get involved with the Green Living Expo
Our Green Living Expo educates local residents about practical ways to: save energy, conserve water and other resources, reduce solid waste, choose eco-friendly transportation, and more. As an Expo volunteer you can to join our planning committee, which meets once a month, and join us at the Expo on April 26th.
  • Serve as a Service Project Leader
Each month ACE volunteers can be found in the community removing waste and invasive plants from parks and streams. As a lead volunteer, you can help to facilitate these events, which are typically held on Saturdays.
  • Administrative Support
Prefer to an office environment to the outdoors?  As an administrative volunteer, you can help with data entry, mailings, web site maintenance, and more. Office volunteers with availability during the business day are welcome to come in once or twice a month.

Do you have skills or experience related to an area not mentioned above? If so, please let us know how you can help.

Make you resolution today:

Thank you for your support, and I look forward to working with you in the coming year.

All the best,
Elenor Hodges
