Midweek Blast of Epiphany Light

July 27, 2016

Pure Energy
I don't know why I do it.  I know what I am going to find and I know how I am going to feel after I find it, yet I can't stop.  It's like watching a trainwreck in slow motion.  It's like ordering a large Blizzard (when I know dairy doesn't agree with me.)  Why do I keep reading the comments and responses to social and political posts on social media and news websites?

Moron, idiot, and (my personal favorite) a special kind of stupid are just a few of the things that people say to each other (hidden behind the keyboards of their computers.) And these are just the PG comments that can be shared! This ship is going down, and instead of plugging the holes and bailing the water, we are drilling new holes and dumping gallons onto this already struggling ship that is our existence.  How tragic.  How sad.

A few years ago an angry mob turned against an innocent man and had him executed on a tree.  Today we are that angry mob.  I don't think Jesus and God are up in Heaven celebrating how we are acting; there is another force and persona that is celebrating this.  Will we add to the eclipse of darkness, or will be the flickering light of hope?

We can't wait for our leaders to do it, so it is up to us.  So here is what I want you to do; interject some positivity into those deplorable conversations.  Be the flickering light of hope.  Go out of your way to find something good, and it may feel like you are digging to China, but do it anyways.  Leave a compliment instead of an insult.  Find something good in your enemy and see them through God's eyes instead of the eyes of the mob.

This boat is worth saving.  We need this boat.  Are you patching holes or drilling new ones?  Are you repairing the damage or lobbing cannonballs at the very boat that you are standing on?  We can either add to the eclipse or be the flickering light of hope.  Which one are you?

Grace and Peace,

Pastor Chris
