Ashes
A message from Pastor Rick
Dear Epiphany People,
Grace and peace to you.
Today is Ash Wednesday. For centuries the church has gathered for this solemn service that marks the beginning of the Season of Lent. We set aside time to come together on a Wednesday evening and have ashes placed on our foreheads with this uplifting statement: Remember that you are dust and to dust you shall return.
Let's face it. Not everybody appreciates what we do on Ash Wednesday or the need for it. As we live here in the buckle of the Bible Belt, we are surrounded by mega-churches and evangelical congregations that do not celebrate this ritual. Moreover, for many who do belong to the liturgical and catholic traditions, Ash Wednesday is somewhat of an oddity. Recognizing these things, I'd like to make a case here for Ash Wednesday. | Sunday's Sermon | |
The title of my sermon is "The Way." On this first Sunday in Lent, we again go with Jesus into the wilderness where he is tempted. What we see and hear in the wilderness not only points us to the lives that God desires for us and how we sabotage them; it also shows us the One who makes us new. |
| Standing on the Promises | |
Our annual appeal to fund God's mission through Epiphany is underway. This week, members received a letter from appeal leaders Brian and Mary Mullenbach, asking all to do three things in prayerful consideration:
Make a Promise
Keep a Promise
Step up your Promise

| CIA Youth Taking Road Trip to Florida | |
 Destination: St. Stephen Lutheran
CIA youth are taking a "road trip" to Longwood, Florida, this weekend to spend time visiting and serving alongside friends at St. Stephen Lutheran Church. The two groups of youth -- from Epiphany and St. Stephen -- spend a week together in June for Confirmation Camp. Please keep the youth, and especially our group of seven CIA kids and three adults, in your prayers as they travel, have fellowship time, and serve this weekend. The Epiphany team returns to Suwanee on Monday. |
| Rainbow Village Competing for Technology Update | |
Vote online to help them win!
Rainbow Village is competing with nine other area non-profit organizations to win a technology "makeover" from Milner. Click here to go to the online site and vote for Rainbow Village. You can vote once a day until the contest ends in March.
And join us Sunday morning at 9:45 when we welcome back Dr. John Smith, COO of Rainbow Village. He is leading us into an understanding of homelessness in our area, looking at how people become homeless, the needs of the homeless, and how our being the heart, hands, and feet of Christ can get them back on their feet.
Rainbow Village, which is a recipient of Epiphany's first fruits gifts, provides transitional housing and a model of self-sufficiency for homeless families with children, a place where they can seek refuge and learn to rebuild their lives with the love and support of a true community. |
