Resolutions

A message from Pastor Devin

Well, Christmas Day is now behind us. Even though as the Church, we celebrate the Season of Christmas that lasts until the wise men arrive on January 6th, the world already is looking toward New Year's Day.

In our culture, New Year's means two things: a night to celebrate into the wee hours and the chance to make personal, annual resolutions. Now, there is certainly nothing wrong with trying to better one's self, to intentionally attempt to grow as a person, and there is no doubt that we all appreciate the chance to start over with a clean slate now and then. Still, I have never cared for New Year's resolutions. The whole practice strikes me as profoundly ungracious. Click here to continue reading

Sermons

The title of my sermon on Sunday is "The Real Jesus." Despite the earthiness of Luke's Christmas story, we have heard it so often it tends to have an unreal, "Hallmark" quality about it. But this week's Gospel lesson of Jesus in the Temple reminds us, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that Jesus was a real kid who truly shared our human life.
