The Christ in Christmas

A message from Pastor Rick

Advent blessings to you all.

It happens every year at this time without fail. Passionate people who love the church bemoan the secularization of the Christmas Season.   We really do live in two worlds right now. There is the world of shopping malls and non-stop hype about sales and new "must haves" for that special someone for Christmas. The hype comes from all angles, even maneuvering through our browsers. The number of pop-up ads right now that sneak through on my browser is really annoying.

And then there is the church, especially liturgical congregations like ours, who insist on celebrating Advent. The texts that come to us as we step into Advent do not take us to a Black Friday sale but take us out into the wilderness. We hear John the Baptist proclaiming about preparing the way of the Lord. It is in the wilderness where all the noise of our secular and overly hyped commercial Christmas is left behind and we are left to ponder what it means to us that Jesus has come into the world. Promise of Light image This Sunday morning, our youth and choirs will bring the message. The story is told through the eyes of our high school youth. It starts with an encounter at Starbucks, which becomes the meeting ground for new eyes to be opened to see Jesus.

Worship is enriched through the music leadership of our choirs -- children and adults -- and instrumentalists. Be sure to join us!

Faith formation for all is at 9:45.
