 | L.A.-High Desert Technical Committee, to be held June 1 in Fontana, will feature micro-milling presentation
| The CalAPA joint L.A. & High Desert Technical Committee will meet Wednesday, June 1 in Fontana. The featured presentation will be on micro-milling for pavement smoothness. Click HERE for details.
James Emerson with CalAPA member firm Pavement Recycling Systems will be delivering the featured presentation on "Micro-Milling for Cost/Life Cycle Extension, Speed & Visual Improvement, Crack Mitigation, Ridability, Better Bonding and Public Perception."
CalAPA Deputy Executive Director Tony Grasso will also provide an update on the state funding picture, technical issues, upcoming events and other industry news.
The meeting will take place on Wednesday, June 1 from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the Caltrans Southern Regional Lab, 13970 Victoria Ave. in Fontana. All CalAPA members and agency personnel are welcome to attend. For more information, contact Grasso at (909) 362-9192.

 | Special 'Innovation' issue of California Asphalt magazine now on-line
| A special "Innovation" issue of CalAPA's official industry magazine, California Asphalt, is hitting mailboxes this week. An on-line version of the issue can be viewed HERE.
 The future-oriented issue features in-depth interviews with Dr. John Harvey, Director of the University of California Pavement Research Center, and Randy Iwasaki, executive director of the Contra Costa Transportation Authority. Iwasaki talks at length about the "GoMentum Station," a transportation test bed on a repurposed military base in his county where autonomous vehicle technology is being tried out. The Caltrans new product and technology approval process is also spotlighted.

 | Brief video focuses on asphalt sustainability | The Asphalt Pavement Alliance, a CalAPA partner, has produced a slick animated video that gives a concise overview of asphalt's many sustainable attributes. Click HERE to view it.
The 1-minute video, titled "Sustainability Matters," touches on recycling, ride quality, noise- reduction and improved fuel economy. The facts cited in the video come from numerous credible sources, including studies, surveys and other reports about asphalt pavements.

IMPROVED SUBGRADE: Any course or courses of select or improved material between the foundation soil and the subbase is usually referred to as the improved sub-grade. The improved sub-grade can be made up of two or more courses of different quality materials.
