Join us in Atlanta!
Whether you are planning to attend the conference, are thinking about attending, or have already registered, we invite you explore the conference's extensive offerings. This email highlights only a few of them; complete information is available on the conference website.
Our main conference venue is the spectacular Marriott Marquis Hotel, located in the Peachtree Center in downtown Atlanta, and daytime activities will conveniently take place in the hotel itself. Evenings will be spent in a variety of venues in and around the city. Highlights of those evening activities are listed below.
We hope to see you in Atlanta in July!

Evening Activities & Events
Daytime activities all take place at the hotel. Evening activities will be held in different venues around the city of Atlanta.
|
|
|
Sunday: Evening Prayer at Redeemer Lutheran Church
Led by LCMS Director of Worship William Weedon with preacher Dien Ashley Taylor, pastor of Redeemer Lutheran Church in the Bronx.
The service of Evening Prayer from Lutheran Service Book will be sung and will include an anointing for ministry.
|
Monday: Holy Communion at The Cathedral of St. Philip
Led by ELCA Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton with preacher William Flippin, Jr.
Although in this liturgy we will experience the grandeur of the cathedral, we will embark on the diversity of liturgical expressions that will be developed more fully throughout our time together.
|
|
Tuesday: Evening Prayer
in a variety of different styles in a variety of locations.
|
 Wednesday Evening Event:
Gathering at the majestic Peachtree Road United Methodist Church for an evening of eclectic singing, visual art, and reflections, we will experience the ongoing reformation of the church through art and song. Open to the public, this event will be live-streamed for those from across the church who want to participate. Resources will be available to adapt and customize this program for local presentation during the 2017 500th anniversary of the Lutheran Reformation.

Workshops
One of the benefits of having a combined conference with the Worship Jubilee is that the number and variety of workshop offerings at the conference is larger than usual. Workshops are being offered at four different times on Monday (1), Tuesday (2), and Wednesday (1) during the conference. If you have not already done so, check out the workshop listing on the conference website. To see detailed descriptions of each workshop, click on the link for that day/time. Pictures & bios of the workshop leaders are available on the Workshop Leaders page and are also linked to under their individual names on the pages for the specific workshop date/time.

Odds & Ends
Check out the "Odds & Ends" page of the conference website to learn about additional opportunities available at the conference. Here are a couple of items listed on the Odds & Ends page:
- Members of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Atlanta, are planning an impromptu time of hymn-singing in a tavern near the event hotel on Tuesday evening.
-
If you're staying for the whole conference, on Thursday there will be two one-hour blocks of time, with 8 rooms available at each time, during which participants may gather a group of people around a topic of their choosing, or share some ideas or talents with others. Interested in reserving one of those times? Contact Scott Weidler at scott.weidler@elca.org.
|
Bring the Whole Group!
Did you know: if one person registers at the full registration price (early or regular) all additional people from the same address (home, church, synod or district) can register at the "2nd person" reduced registration rate. Many congregations are taking advantage of this and are sending 3, 4 or even 5 people to the conference. To register two or more people from your congregation, list each person's home address in the address fields and include the same congregation name, city and state in the appropriate field. People from the same home address receive the same price reduction, even if they do not attend the same church. Bring the whole group!
|
|
What Are People Saying?
On the fence about whether to attend the conference? People from congregations of all sizes, locations, and worship styles share their thoughts on why they're attending the conference.

Organ Master Class
Dr. Martin Jean will lead an organ master class on Tuesday at the 1:30 workshop time at First United Methodist Church. Organists who would like to play for him should send an e-mail to worship@elca.org no later than May 31 indicating:
- their name and e-mail address
- the name, composer, and timing of the piece
- what their current role is (teacher, student, church musician, etc.)
The focus will be on organ literature, not hymn playing. No piece should be more than 7 minutes long. There will not be a lot of time available for each player. So that a variety of repertoire can be heard and discussed, not everyone may be able to play. All applicants will be notified, one way or the other, by mid-June, including when they might get be a few minutes on the organ in advance.
