Dear ALCM members,

Last month's award-winning video greeting by president Anne Krentz Organ was very well received by the ALCM membership, so we've decided to continue this month with short video clips by the four regional conference planning teams. Whether you've already registered for a conference or you're thinking about attending a conference or even if you know that you're not going to be able to attend a conference, you'll want to view the videos. Just click on the arrows below. We think you'll agree that several of our members have been hiding quite a bit of talent!

Donate to ALCM

Thrivent Financial for Lutherans supports certain non-profits by allowing its eligible members to direct charitable funds to the organization through its "Thrivent Choice" program. Last month two ALCM members directed over $2,500 to ALCM through the "Thrivent Choice" program.

If you are a member of Thrivent and are eligible to direct "Choice Dollars, please select ALCM as a recipient. There are two ways to do this:

  1. Go to Thrivent.com and log in to your account. Go to the "Search Organizations" page and type: "association of lu" in the organization name box and click the "Search" button. Select "Association of Lutheran Church Musicians" and follow the instructions for directing your Choice Dollars to ALCM.
  2. Call 1-800-847-4836 and say "Thrivent Choice" after the greeting.

New St. Cecilia Column Posted

Dear St. Cecilia,

I am organist at a wonderful congregation that averages 120 in worship per Sunday. The congregation sings (in the words of John Wesley) "lustily and with good courage," even when an unfamiliar hymn is introduced. The problem concerns one member of the church who feels moved regularly to improvise her own descants. Log in to the Members Area of the web site to read more.

Got a Question? Ask St. Cecilia!

Pastor Ron Koch, the "Dear Abby" of the Lutheran church music world, is the voice behind St. Cecilia, and he welcomes your questions and concerns. You can reach Ron at [email protected] or by snail mail to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church; 1735 Hecker Pass Highway; Gilroy, CA 95020. Telephone calls are also welcome at (408) 842-2713. All "Dear St. Cecilia" inquiries and concerns will remain anonymous and confidential.
