Lenten Greetings,
As you may have read in the summary of the January ALCM Board meeting sent out last month, I am very happy to announce that the Metro New York Synod of the ELCA awarded ALCM a $15,000 general operating grant in January. I want to especially thank our Board Member "At-Large," Tom Schmidt, for bringing this funding opportunity to our attention. This generous support enables us to consider new programs and projects that will further fulfill our mission.
And I want to remind you that early registration rates for the 2013 biennial conference ends today - March 1st. You can register online or print & mail a registration form.
I was recently on Elizabeth Drescher's website, one of the plenary speakers at the conference, and found this quote by Donna Freitas about her, "Elizabeth Drescher makes a convincing case for why digital social media and Church not only go hand in hand, but how new technologies can help us reclaim traditions from the past in updated ways for today." That certainly piqued my curiosity, and made me want to hear what she has to say. Hope it does yours too.
A blessed Lent to all of you!

"God Is Here: Worship in a Wireless World"
June 30-July 3, 2013
Valparaiso University, Valparaiso IN
Are you undecided about coming to the ALCM conference this summer? Let me give you some things to think about that I think will really enhance your conference experience and make you so glad that you came.
Location, location, location. Plan some time to relax and visit the scenic Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore with its walking and hiking trails, beaches, wild life, and much more along the shore of Lake Michigan, a mere fifteen miles away from our beautiful and evolving campus. We've recently opened our Arts & Sciences Building and are in the process of completing the Duesenberg Welcome Center. At the heart of the campus stands the magnificent Chapel of the Resurrection with its 103-rank recently refurbished Schlicker-Dobson organ, one of eight pipe organs on campus. A few steps away at the core of our campus visit our award winning Christopher Center for Library and Information Resources and get a demonstration of an amazing automatic book retrieval system that you'll want to tell everybody at home about. Dine in the award winning Harre Union that boasts an executive chef who serves up delicious gourmet snacks and meals.
Program, program, program. Valparaiso University is the home of the Bach Institute, and you will enjoy a thrilling performance by the Bach Choir under the direction of Dr. Christopher Cock. But wait, there is more. The wonderful National Lutheran Choir under the direction of David Cherwein will team up with Dr. Martin Jean at the organ for an unforgettable hymn sing. And that won't be the only time you will get to hear them perform!
Colleagues, colleagues, colleagues. One of the high points of any conference is the rekindling of friendships with other ALCM members as well as the building of new friendships with other conference attendees. In addition, VU's outstanding pastoral staff and music faculty will be on hand, and they are anxious to give you a warm Valpo welcome. Now, why would you want to stay home?
