Requiem aeternam dona eis
Grant to them eternal rest
Who will you remember this All Saints day? In our assemblies many of us will hear the names of those who have died over the past year. Others of us will feel the poignant pain of remembering a friend or relative we have lost. This is an ancient practice of the church, and one that connects us to our humanity and mortality. It is a day when the church musters both its deepest grief and its highest joy.
Who will you remember this All Saints day? Take some time today to recount the saints in your life: those who brought you to faith, to the church, to music, to your vocation for church music. It may be a single person, or it may be many. We all do what we do because someone taught us, or opened a door for us, or gave us an opportunity. They are part of the company of the saints who surround us. As you sing and make melody to God this Sunday, give a little thanks for the saints in your own life.
Blessed All Saints, Lorraine Brugh President |
