I have the pleasure of welcoming a number of new subscribers to this newsletter. I so appreciate your presence in my life and your support of my work. If you are inspired to share this newsletter with others, I welcome you to forward it. It is easy to subscribe on my web site, as well as to unsubscribe with one click if you desire to at any time.

At this moment I am preparing to return
to my beloved alma mater, Stephens College, for meetings of the Alumnae Association Board, on which I am currently serving as Vice-President of Communications. Stephens is always in my heart and I love being on the campus as well as seeing Columbia, Missouri and stopping by Memphis along the way.

On Sunday, October 13th at 3:30 PM, I have the pleasure of returning to Congregation Beth Shalom of Ocala to bring centuries of Jewish music and history to life through stories and songs of Israel and the Jewish Diaspora, including folk and liturgical Hebrew, Chassidic, Yiddish, and popular Jewish songs in a concert entitled Shirat HaNefesh: The Jewish Spirit in Song. The concert is $10 for adults, $7 for ages 13 and under. For details, call Joseph at 352-208-3031. Download a flyer here.

As part of Congregation Beth Am of Tampa's Continuing Education Series on
Thursdays, November 7, 14, and 21 from 7-9 PM, Vikki Silverman and I will lead Modern Shabbat Nusach: New Jewish Liturgical Music, sharing modern melodic settings of Shabbat liturgical texts, comparing musical settings from Ashkenazic Reform to Sephardic, Chasidic, folk, pop, Israeli, and classical settings of the late 19th, 20th and 21st centuries, with an examination of the Hebrew prayer text and background of the composers. You'll hear newer melodies as well as familiar ones and we'll lead you in song. There is no charge, and all are welcome. I'll also bring you Hanukkah Circle of Songs: A Concert/Discussion of the Stories and Songs of Hanukkah on Monday, November 25, 2013, 7:00-8:30 PM, at the congregation, and it to is open to all at no charge. Congregation Beth Am recently unveiled its new and evolving web site at http://www.bethamtampa.org/

Saturday, November 23rd at 7:30 PM at Unity of Palm Harbor will see the debut of The Divine Divas
: an inspirational singer/songwriter round robin concert with Elaine Silver, Bonnie Whitehurst and myself. We have performed many times together over the decades and are genuinely excited to be bringing a new series of concerts to you. Details are on my site here.

REGISTRATION/DEPOSIT DEADLINE 10/23/13
Extraordinary Cultural & Humanitarian
Jewish Heritage Tour of CUBA ✡
March 23-April 2, 2014

11 days/10 nights:  Havana * Jaimanitas * Cienfuegos * Trinidad * Santa Clara * Remedios * Pinar Del Rio * Cojimar * Reserve IMMEDIATELY! $4095 Virtually All Inclusive * View Itinerary

I invite you to join me in this enriching and one-of-a-kind opportunity to explore Cuba's art, architecture, heritage and Jewish communities of Havana and Santa Clara. Hotels, US/Cuba airfare, all domestic transportation within Cuba, most meals, and a rich schedule of extraordinary activities are included.

We leave and return from the Tampa Airport (TPA), a one-hour-twenty-minute direct flight. We will take humanitarian goods to support and benefit the Cuban Jewish congregations and donate these goods while there. Buildings, streets, and monuments constructed during Cuba's 500-year history provide a glimpse into the country's early development, its colonial influences, political and religious development since Columbus' arrival, and 400 years of Spanish rule along with the centuries of rich and varied Jewish history of the island. We'll view the architecture, visit museums, experience a range of music, walk historic Jewish districts, join two of Havana's active Jewish communities for Shabbat and Shabbat meals, and visit the Holocaust Memorials of Havana and Santa Clara. We'll discover Ernest Hemingway's home and haunts, visit the open-air workshop-gallery of the Caribbean Picasso, José Rodrigues Fuster and his eye-popping town of Jaimanitas which itself is defined as a work of public art.

We'll visit spectacular Pinar Del Rio Province and its world-renowned Las Terrazas (environmental terraces) project, an official UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. We'll travel to some of the most breathtaking and history-laden regions of the island, including World Heritage Sites of Cienfuegos, Valle de los Ingenios, Trinidad, Santa Clara, and Remedios. And we'll stay at the renowned 5-star Hotel Nacional, frequented by the famous and the notorious, diplomats and celebrities through its long history, and the restored Modernist 4-star Jagua Hotel of Cienfuegos, both of which are located on the breathtaking Malecon seaside boulevards. Walk minutes to the central historic districts and waterside from both hotels.

You will love the warmth of the Jewish communities of Cuba and the rich music, art, and landscape-which we will experience abundantly on this tour.
